포항시는 9일 시청 중회의실에서 경상북도, 포항시의회, 이클레이(지속가능성을 위한 세계지방정부협의회)와 '2027 이클레이 세계총회 성공 개최 및 기후위기 대응을 위한 상호협력 협약'을 체결했다고 밝혔다.

협약식에는 박용선 포항시장과 김철수 포항시의회 의장, 황명석 경상북도 행정부지사, 지노 반 베긴 이클레이 세계사무총장을 비롯해 관계 기관 주요 인사들이 참석했다.

이번 협약은 세계총회 준비 과정에서 기관별 역할을 강화하고 긴밀한 협력체계를 구축하는 한편, 지방정부 간 국제 교류 확대와 지속가능발전, 기후변화 대응 분야의 공동 협력을 활성화하기 위해 마련됐다.

협약에 참여한 기관들은 세계총회의 안정적인 운영과 성공적인 개최를 위해 상호 협력하는 것은 물론, 지속가능발전 정책과 탄소중립 실현을 위한 국제 네트워크 확대, 지방정부 간 정책 교류 활성화에도 힘을 모으기로 했다.

2027 이클레이 세계총회는 내년 10월 포항에서 개최될 예정으로, 세계 100여 개 지방정부 대표와 국제기구 관계자, 전문가 등 약 1,500명이 참석할 것으로 예상된다. 총회에서는 '산업도시의 탄소중립 전환, 지속가능한 미래로의 여정'을 주제로 기후위기 대응 정책과 지속가능발전 사례 등을 논의할 예정이다.

At the General Assembly, discussions on climate crisis response policies and sustainable development case studies are scheduled to take place under the theme of "Transition to Carbon Neutrality in Industrial Cities: A Journey Toward a Sustainable Future."

Taking this agreement as an opportunity, Pohang City plans to further solidify the foundation for cooperation with Gyeongsangbuk-do, the Pohang City Council, and ICLEI World Headquarters, systematically proceed with preparations for the event, and continuously strengthen cooperation in expanding international exchanges and responding to the climate crisis.
