포항시의회는 지난 11일 본회의장에서 지역 초등학교 5·6학년 학생들을 대상으로 '2026년 청소년 모의의회 체험 교육'을 실시했다고 밝혔다.

이번 프로그램은 (사)포항시의정회가 주관했으며, 포항시와 포항시의회, 포항교육지원청이 후원했다. 학생들이 실제 의정활동을 경험하며 지방자치에 대한 이해를 높이고 민주적 의사결정 과정을 익힐 수 있도록 마련됐다.

참가 학생들은 먼저 시의회 청사와 의회 홍보관을 둘러보며 지방의회의 기능과 운영 과정을 살펴봤다. 이어 정원석 의원의 '회의와 토론'을 주제로 한 특강을 통해 지방자치의 의미와 토론 문화의 중요성을 배우는 시간을 가졌다.

이후 본회의장에서는 학생들이 직접 의정활동을 체험했다. 참가자들은 5분 자유발언 원고를 작성한 뒤 개회식과 의장 선출, 자유발언, 조례안 상정, 찬반 토론, 표결 등 실제 본회의 절차를 순서대로 수행하며 조례가 만들어지는 과정을 현장에서 경험했다.

김철수 포항시의회 의장은 "청소년 모의의회는 미래 세대가 지방자치의 가치를 이해하고 공동체 의식을 함양할 수 있는 의미 있는 교육 프로그램"이라며 "민주적인 의사결정 과정을 직접 체험하면서 서로의 의견을 존중하고 소통과 협력을 통해 문제를 해결하는 시민의식을 기르는 계기가 되길 기대한다"고 말했다.

한편, 청소년 모의의회 체험 교육은 오는 10월 17일까지 모두 7차례 운영되며, 회차별로 40명의 학생이 참여할 예정이다.

Meanwhile, the Youth Mock Council experience program will be held a total of seven times until October 17, with 40 students expected to participate in each session.
