국민의힘 유영하 국회의원(대구 달서구갑)은 15일, 보건복지부가 발표한 ‘2026년 응급의료기관 재지정 평가’ 결과 계명대 동산병원이 권역응급의료센터로 신규 지정됐다고 밝혔다. 지정 기간은 오는 11월 1일부터 2029년 10월 31일까지다.

동산병원은 2019년 달서구 성서지역에 개원한 이래 지역응급의료센터로 운영돼 왔으나, 이번에 처음으로 권역응급의료센터로 격상됐다.

그동안 대구에는 경북대병원과 영남대병원 두 곳만 권역응급의료센터로서의 역할을 맡아왔다. 이 때문에 서구, 달서구, 달성군 등 서남부권 중증응급환자들은 장거리 이송에 따른 불편을 겪었고, 기존 권역센터 역시 경북 지역 환자까지 함께 수용하면서 응급실 과밀과 중증환자 수용 부담이 지속적으로 지적돼 왔다.

특히 지난 4월에는 조산 증세를 보인 임신부가 산부인과 전문의와 신생아 중환자실 부족 등으로 여러 병원에서 수용되지 못해 장시간 이송이 지연되는 사건이 발생, 지역 응급의료체계 개선의 필요성이 사회적으로 큰 관심을 받기도 했다.

이번 지정으로 대구 서구, 달서구, 달성군 등 서남부권 약 93만 명과 인접 지역을 합친 약 125만 명의 응급의료 접근성이 개선될 것으로 보인다. 중증응급환자의 이송 거리·시간이 짧아지고, 기존 권역응급의료센터의 환자 집중도 분산돼 골든타임 확보에도 긍정적인 역할을 할 전망이다.

유영하 의원은 4월 지역 임신부 이송 지연 사건 이후 동산병원을 방문, 의료진과 간담회를 갖고 고위험 산모와 중증응급환자 수용체계 개선 방안을 논의한 바 있다. 이후 국무조정실과 보건복지부 등에 기존 권역응급의료센터의 과밀화와 지역 의료 접근성의 한계를 꾸준히 건의하는 한편, 동산병원의 권역응급의료센터 지정 필요성을 지속적으로 설명해 왔다고 의원실은 전했다.

유 의원은 “이번 지정으로 달서구를 비롯한 대구 서남부권 주민들이 위급할 때 더 가까운 곳에서 신속하게 응급의료서비스를 받을 수 있게 됐다”며 “앞으로도 환자가 치료받을 병원을 찾지 못해 골든타임을 놓치는 일이 없도록, 대구 응급의료체계가 현장에서 제대로 작동하도록 계속 점검해 가겠다”고 밝혔다.

With this designation, access to emergency medical care is expected to improve for approximately 930,000 people in the southwestern region of Daegu—including Seo-gu, Dalseo-gu, and Dalseong-gun—and a total of about 1.25 million people including those in adjacent areas. The reduction in transport distance and time for critically ill emergency patients, along with the dispersion of patient concentration at existing regional emergency medical centers, is expected to play a positive role in securing the "golden hour."

Representative Yoo Young-ha visited Dongsan Hospital in April following an incident involving a delayed transfer of a pregnant woman from the region. He held a meeting with medical staff to discuss ways to improve the system for admitting high-risk pregnant women and critically ill emergency patients. His office stated that since then, he has consistently voiced concerns regarding the overcrowding of existing regional emergency medical centers and the limitations of regional medical accessibility to the Office for Government Policy Coordination and the Ministry of Health and Welfare, while continuously explaining the necessity of designating Dongsan Hospital as a regional emergency medical center.

Representative Yoo stated, "With this designation, residents of Dalseo-gu and the southwestern region of Daegu will now be able to receive rapid emergency medical services closer to home when in critical condition." He added, "I will continue to monitor the Daegu emergency medical system to ensure it functions properly on the ground, so that no patient misses the 'golden hour' due to being unable to find a hospital for treatment."
