【브레이크뉴스 경북】진예솔 기자=경북교육청이 운영하는 사이버독도학교가 개교 5주년을 맞아 누적 방문자 300만 명을 기록하며 국내 대표 온라인 독도교육 플랫폼으로 자리매김했다.

경북교육청은 16일, 사이버독도학교 누적 방문자가 300만 명을 넘어섰고, 교육과정을 이수한 수료자도 3만 명을 돌파했다고 밝혔다. 사이버독도학교는 2021년 누구나 시간과 장소의 제약 없이 독도 교육을 받을 수 있도록 개설된 온라인 교육 플랫폼이다. 초급, 중급, 고급 등 단계별 교육과정을 통해 독도의 역사, 영토 주권, 생태와 문화 등 다양한 내용을 체계적으로 배우도록 구성되어 있다.

국내뿐 아니라 해외에서도 관심이 이어지고 있다. 현재 외국인 회원은 402명이며, 이 가운데 142명이 교육과정을 수료했다. 베트남, 미국 등 여러 국가의 학습자들이 참여하면서, 독도에 대한 올바른 역사 인식과 대한민국의 영토 주권을 알리는 국제 교육 플랫폼으로서의 가능성도 높아지고 있다.

경북교육청은 변화하는 디지털 교육환경에 발맞춰 교육 콘텐츠 확대에도 주력하고 있다. 월간 교수학습자료 ‘월간 독도’를 비롯해 메타버스 웹 버전, ‘독도를 지키는 사람들’ 가상통화 콘텐츠, 독도 바위 AR(증강현실), 독도 워크북 ‘우리 독도’, 독도 입도 기념 영상 등 다양한 체험형 콘텐츠가 개발되어 학생들의 흥미와 참여를 이끌고 있다.

올해는 ‘독도 배움터 2.0’ 사업을 통해 콘텐츠 품질을 높이고, 학교 현장 활용성을 더하는 데 집중할 계획이다. 연말까지 관리위원회를 중심으로 기존 독도교육 자료를 학생 눈높이에 맞춰 재구성하고, 교사들이 수업에 바로 활용할 수 있는 교수학습자료도 보완할 예정이다.

오는 7월에는 학생과 교사를 대상으로 ‘독도 지식 쌓기’와 ‘함께 독도 수업하기’ 프로그램을 운영하며, 학교 현장과 연계한 독도교육을 한층 확대할 방침이다.

아울러 오프라인 교육 기반도 함께 다지고 있다. 경북교육청은 2028년 개원을 목표로 독도교육원을 조성하고, 사이버독도학교와 연계한 온·오프라인 통합 독도교육 체계를 마련해 전국 학생들의 체험과 탐방 기회를 넓혀갈 계획이다.

사이버독도학교의 성과는 단순히 이용자가 늘어난 데 그치지 않는다. 디지털 기술을 활용한 새로운 역사·영토교육 모델을 제시했다는 평가도 받고 있다. 특히 메타버스와 증강현실 등 미래형 콘텐츠를 도입해 학생들의 자발적 참여를 이끌었고, 해외 학습자까지 교육 대상을 넓히면서 독도교육의 접근성과 확장성을 높였다는 점에서 의미가 있다는 분석이다.

임종식 경북교육감은 “사이버독도학교는 누구나 독도를 배우고 올바른 역사 인식을 가질 수 있는 대표 플랫폼으로 성장했다”며 “앞으로도 디지털 콘텐츠를 고도화하고, 2028년 독도교육원과 연계한 온·오프라인 교육체계를 구축해 미래세대가 올바른 역사관과 영토 의식을 갖춘 세계시민으로 성장할 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.
