구미시는 27일 갑을구미재활병원에서 구미+ 어린이재활센터 개소식을 개최했다고 밝혔다. 지난 3월 진료를 시작한 센터는 운영 안정화 과정을 거쳐 이날 공식 개소했으며, 6월 말 기준 누적 이용객은 2천844명을 기록했다.

이날 행사에는 김장호 구미시장을 비롯해 지역 국회의원과 경북도의원, 구미시의원, 경북장애인부모회 구미시지부, KBI그룹 및 갑을의료재단 관계자 등 50여 명이 참석해 센터 개소를 축하했다.

구미+ 어린이재활센터는 지역 내 소아 재활치료 기반을 확충하기 위해 구미시가 추진한 사업으로, 의료법인 갑을의료재단 갑을구미재활병원이 운영을 맡고 있다.

센터에는 재활의학과 전문의를 포함해 간호사, 물리치료사, 작업치료사, 언어재활사, 사회복지사 등 모두 20명의 전문 인력이 배치됐다. 고성능 재활장비와 아동 친화형 치료공간을 갖추고 장애아동과 발달지연 아동을 대상으로 맞춤형 재활치료 서비스를 제공하고 있다.

구미시는 민선 8기 들어 소아·청소년 필수의료 체계 구축을 주요 과제로 추진해 왔다. 도내에서 유일하게 고위험 신생아 집중치료 병상 8개를 운영하는 '구미+ 신생아집중치료센터'를 비롯해 24시간 운영되는 '365 소아청소년 진료센터', 평일 야간과 휴일 진료를 지원하는 산부인과·소아과 연장진료 체계, 달빛어린이병원 등을 잇달아 구축하며 의료서비스를 확대해 왔다.

이번 어린이재활센터 개소로 구미시는 고위험 신생아 치료부터 응급진료, 야간·휴일 진료, 전문 재활치료까지 소아 필수의료 서비스를 지역 내에서 연계해 제공할 수 있는 기반을 갖추게 됐다. 이에 따라 재활치료를 위해 타 지역 의료기관을 이용해야 했던 시민들의 불편도 줄어들 것으로 기대된다.

김장호 구미시장은 "어린이재활센터 개소를 통해 지역에서도 전문적인 소아 재활치료를 받을 수 있는 기반이 마련됐다"며 "앞으로도 아이와 부모가 안심하고 의료서비스를 이용할 수 있도록 소아 필수의료 체계를 지속적으로 강화해 나가겠다"고 말했다.
