【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=경상북도가 인공지능(AI)과 소프트웨어(SW) 전문인력 양성 및 디지털 산업 경쟁력 강화를 위한 거점 시설인 'ICT 콤플렉스'를 포항에 조성했다.

경북도는 포항 첨단해양R&D센터 9층에 AI·SW 교육과 개발, 실증, 기업 협력 프로젝트, ICT 분야 취·창업 지원 기능을 갖춘 'ICT 콤플렉스'를 개소했다고 밝혔다.

ICT 콤플렉스는 도민과 기업이 첨단 장비와 개발 환경을 자유롭게 활용할 수 있는 디지털 혁신 공간으로, AI·SW 전문인력 양성과 지역 산업의 디지털 전환을 지원하는 핵심 거점 역할을 맡게 된다.

개소식에는 박시균 경북도 메타AI과학국장을 비롯해 포항시와 과학기술정보통신부, 유관기관 관계자 등 100여 명이 참석했다. 행사는 시설 투어를 시작으로 운영계획 발표, 환영사와 축사, 기념촬영, 특강 순으로 진행됐다.

ICT 콤플렉스는 과학기술정보통신부와 정보통신산업진흥원이 추진하는 ICT이노베이션스퀘어 확산사업의 핵심 시설이다. 재직자와 예비 창업자, 청년, 학생 등을 대상으로 AI·SW·데이터 분야 교육을 기초부터 심화 과정까지 제공하며, 기업과 함께 산업 현장의 문제를 해결하는 프로젝트 기반 학습(PBL)도 운영한다.

또한 초기 창업자와 예비 창업자가 자유롭게 연구와 실증을 수행할 수 있도록 다양한 첨단 장비를 갖춘 테스트베드(오픈랩)를 지원해 기술 개발과 사업화를 뒷받침할 계획이다.

경북도는 포항의 제조산업 기반과 풍부한 산업 데이터를 활용해 현장 중심의 실무교육이 가능할 것으로 기대하고 있다. 이에 따라 중소·중견기업 재직자를 대상으로 AI와 직무를 연계한 하이브리드 교육을 운영해 산업 현장의 디지털 전환 역량을 높일 방침이다.

이와 함께 학생과 청년을 위한 디지털 신기술 특강과 경진대회를 정기적으로 개최하고, 기업의 기술 애로사항을 함께 해결하는 상생협력(Co-Up) 프로젝트도 확대 추진할 예정이다.

박시균 경북도 메타AI과학국장은 "산업 환경이 빠르게 변화하는 만큼 첨단 분야 전문인력 확보가 무엇보다 중요하다"며 "현장 중심의 ICT 교육과 산업 데이터를 활용한 실무교육을 통해 지역의 AI·SW 핵심인재를 지속적으로 양성해 나가겠다"고 말했다.

North Gyeongsang Province has established the ‘ICT Complex’ in Pohang, a hub facility designed to foster specialized personnel in artificial intelligence (AI) and software (SW) and strengthen the competitiveness of the digital industry.

North Gyeongsang Province announced the opening of the ‘ICT Complex’ on the 9th floor of the Pohang Advanced Marine R&D Center. The complex is equipped with functions for AI & SW education, development, demonstration, corporate collaboration projects, and support for employment and startups in the ICT sector.

The ICT Complex serves as a digital innovation space where residents and businesses can freely utilize advanced equipment and development environments. It will play a key role as a core hub supporting the training of AI & SW professionals and the digital transformation of local industries.

Approximately 100 people attended the opening ceremony, including Park Si-gyun, Director General of the Meta AI Science Bureau of North Gyeongsang Province, as well as officials from Pohang City, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and related organizations. The ICT Complex is a key facility for the ICT Innovation Square Expansion Project, promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Information & Communication Technology Industry Promotion Agency (KIPA). It provides education in the fields of AI, software, and data—ranging from basic to advanced courses—to employees, prospective entrepreneurs, youth, and students. It also operates Project-Based Learning (PBL) programs to solve real-world industrial problems in collaboration with companies.

Furthermore, the plan is to support technology development and commercialization by providing a testbed (open lab) equipped with various cutting-edge equipment, allowing early-stage and prospective entrepreneurs to freely conduct research and demonstrations.

Gyeongbuk Province expects that field-oriented practical training will be possible by leveraging Pohang's manufacturing industry base and abundant industrial data. Accordingly, the province plans to enhance the digital transformation capabilities of the industrial sector by operating hybrid education programs that link AI with job functions for employees of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies. In addition, the province plans to regularly host special lectures and competitions on new digital technologies for students and young people, and to expand Co-Up projects that jointly resolve technological challenges faced by companies.

Park Si-kyun, Director of the Meta AI Science Bureau of Gyeongsangbuk-do, stated, "As the industrial environment changes rapidly, securing specialized personnel in cutting-edge fields is of paramount importance." He added, "We will continuously foster core AI and software talent in the region through field-oriented ICT education and practical training utilizing industrial data."
