【브레이크뉴스 경북】진예솔 기자=대구교육대학교안동부설초등학교(이하 안동부설초)가 국제바칼로레아(IB) 본부로부터 IB PYP(초등 과정, Primary Years Programme) 월드스쿨 공식 인증을 획득했다. 경북교육청은 30일 이 같은 사실을 밝히며, 안동부설초가 후보학교 승인 후 불과 13개월 만에 인증을 받는 성과를 거뒀다고 전했다. 학교는 탐구 중심 교육과정과 학생 주도 학습 문화를 국제 기준에 맞게 안착시켰다는 평가를 받고 있다.

이번 인증으로 안동부설초는 경북지역에서 IB 월드스쿨로 운영되는 초등학교로 자리매김하게 됐다. 경북교육청은 기존 구미원당초에 이어 안동부설초까지 IB 월드스쿨 인증을 받으면서, 도내 IB 교육 확산을 이끌 2개 거점학교 체제를 갖추게 됐다.

국제바칼로레아 본부는 안동부설초에 대해 탐구 중심 교육과정 운영, 교사 전문적학습공동체 활동, 학생·교사·학부모가 함께하는 교육공동체 문화 등을 방문 심사를 통해 종합적으로 평가한 뒤 공식 인증을 승인했다.

안동부설초는 후보학교로 지정된 이후 13개월 동안 IB 교육 철학을 학교 교육과정에 반영했고, 교사 연수와 공동 수업 연구, 평가 혁신 등을 꾸준히 추진해왔다. 학생들은 스스로 질문을 만들고 탐구하며 문제를 해결하는 수업을 경험했으며, 교사들은 교육과정 설계와 수업·평가를 함께 연구하는 전문적학습공동체를 활성화해 학교 전반에 탐구 중심 문화를 자리잡도록 힘썼다.

경북교육청은 이번 인증이 학생 중심 미래교육 실현과 탐구 중심 수업 확산의 전환점이 될 것으로 기대하고 있다. 앞으로 안동부설초와 구미원당초를 중심으로 IB 교육 운영 사례를 적극 공유하고, 교원 연수와 후보학교 지원을 확대해 나갈 계획이다.

김정기 안동부설초 교장은 “학생들이 스스로 질문하고 탐구하며 성장하는 IB 교육 철학을 바탕으로, 탐구 역량을 더욱 키워나가겠다”며 “교사와 교육공동체가 함께 성장하는 탐구 중심 학교 문화를 지속적으로 발전시키겠다”고 말했다.

임종식 경북교육감도 “안동부설초가 IB 월드스쿨 공식 인증을 받은 것은 경북교육이 학생 중심 미래교육으로 나아가는 중요한 이정표”라며 “앞으로 지역 거점 IB 학교를 중심으로 탐구 기반 수업과 학생 주도형 교육을 넓혀가, 모든 학생이 스스로 질문하고 배우는 미래형 학교 문화를 만들어가겠다”고 밝혔다.

Daegu National University of Education Andong Elementary School (hereinafter Andong Elementary) has obtained official accreditation as an IB World School for its Primary Years Programme (PYP) from the International Baccalaureate (IB) headquarters. The Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education announced this on the 30th, stating that Andong Elementary achieved the feat of receiving accreditation just 13 months after being approved as a candidate school. With Andong Elementary receiving IB World School accreditation alongside Gumi Wondang Elementary School, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education has established a system of two hub schools to lead the expansion of IB education within the province. The International Baccalaureate Headquarters approved the official accreditation of Andong Bucheol Elementary School after comprehensively evaluating its inquiry-based curriculum operation, teacher professional learning community activities, and educational community culture involving students, teachers, and parents through an on-site inspection.

For 13 months since being designated as a candidate school, Andong Bucheol Elementary School has incorporated the IB educational philosophy into its curriculum and consistently promoted teacher training, collaborative lesson research, and assessment innovation. Students experienced classes where they independently formulated questions, explored, and solved problems, while teachers revitalized professional learning communities to jointly research curriculum design, instruction, and assessment, striving to establish an inquiry-based culture throughout the school.

The Gyeongbuk Office of Education expects this accreditation to serve as a turning point for realizing student-centered future education and expanding inquiry-based instruction. Moving forward, the Office plans to actively share best practices in IB education operation, focusing on Andong Bucheol Elementary School and Gumi Wondang Elementary School, and to expand teacher training and support for candidate schools. Kim Jeong-gi, Principal of Andong Bu-seol Elementary School, stated, “Based on the IB educational philosophy where students grow by asking questions and exploring on their own, we will further enhance their inquiry capabilities,” adding, “We will continuously develop an inquiry-centered school culture where teachers and the educational community grow together.”

Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of Education for Gyeongbuk Province, also remarked, “Andong Bu-seol Elementary School’s official accreditation as an IB World School marks an important milestone for Gyeongbuk education as it moves toward student-centered future education.” He further stated, “Moving forward, we will expand inquiry-based classes and student-led education centered around regional hub IB schools to create a future-oriented school culture where all students ask questions and learn on their own.”
