경상북도문화관광공사(사장 김남일)는 지난 5일 울릉도·독도 일원에서 ‘경북 동해안 수중비경 10+1선’을 발표하고, 동해안 해양관광 활성화를 위한 홍보 활동을 시작했다고 밝혔다.

이번 사업은 동해안 해양보호구역의 보전 가치를 알리고, 수중 생태자원을 활용한 지속 가능한 해양관광 모델을 구축하기 위해 추진됐다.

울릉 죽도에서 열린 공개 행사에는 가수이자 스쿠버다이빙 마스터로 활동 중인 이은미 씨가 참석해 ‘경상북도 동해바다 명예 홍보대사’로 위촉됐다.

이은미 홍보대사는 위촉식 이후 전문 다이버들과 함께 죽도 인근 해역에 직접 입수해 수중 탐방을 진행했다. 수심 약 40m 지점에서 해송 군락지와 거대한 수중 암벽 등 울릉 바다의 독특한 생태 경관을 체험하며 동해 수중 자원의 아름다움을 알렸다.

공사는 이날 공식 포스터를 공개하고, 오랜 기간 죽도의 자연환경 보전에 힘써온 주민 김유곤 씨에게 감사패를 전달했다.

이번에 선정된 ‘경북 동해안 수중비경 11선’에는 포항 호미반도, 경주 문무대왕릉, 울진 왕돌초를 비롯해 울릉도의 죽도와 관음도, 독도 등이 포함됐다.

포항 호미반도는 독특한 해안 지형과 수중 암반 경관을 갖춘 곳으로 선정됐으며, 경주 문무대왕릉은 유네스코 세계지질공원에 등재된 지질 자원과 해양 경관을 함께 감상할 수 있는 명소로 꼽혔다. 울진 왕돌초는 대규모 수중 암초 지대로 해양생태 가치가 높은 곳으로 평가됐다.

울릉 지역에서는 해송 군락이 형성된 죽도와 웅장한 수중 풍경을 가진 관음도, 국내 최대 규모의 유착나무돌산호 군락지로 알려진 독도가 이름을 올렸다.

경북문화관광공사는 앞으로 수중비경을 활용한 영상과 홍보 콘텐츠를 제작해 국내외 관광객에게 경북 동해안의 해양 생태와 레저 자원을 적극 알릴 예정이다.

이와 함께 공사는 울릉 브루어리에서 청년 창업가와 로컬 크리에이터, 문화관광청년특사 등 20여 명이 참석한 가운데 지역 관광 발전 방향을 논의하는 간담회도 개최했다. 참석자들은 울릉 지역 관광 서비스 현황과 향후 울릉공항 개항에 대비한 관광 대응 전략 등을 논의했다.

김남일 경북문화관광공사 사장은 "경북 동해안 수중비경을 선정해 공개하는 것은 이번이 처음으로, 숨겨진 청정 해양자원을 국내외에 알리는 의미 있는 계기가 될 것"이라며 "해양레저 관광 수요 증가와 울릉공항 개항에 대비해 새로운 관광 콘텐츠를 지속 발굴하겠다"고 말했다.

이어 "앞으로도 동해안 5개 시·군의 특성을 살린 차별화된 해양관광 마케팅을 추진해 경북 동해안이 대한민국 대표 해양관광지로 자리매김할 수 있도록 노력하겠다"고 밝혔다.
