대구시는 시민들의 영어 학습 환경을 개선하기 위해 '대구 스마트리스닝'을 새롭게 개편하고 8월 7일부터 운영에 들어간다고 밝혔다.
대구 스마트리스닝은 EBS 영어 콘텐츠를 기반으로 운영되는 온라인 학습 서비스로, 대구시민이면 누구나 무료로 이용할 수 있다. PC와 모바일을 모두 지원해 학생은 물론 일반 시민도 시간과 장소에 구애받지 않고 영어를 학습할 수 있다.
이번 개편은 영어 듣기 중심이었던 기존 서비스를 듣기와 단어, 문법, AI 회화 기능까지 포함하는 통합 학습 플랫폼으로 확장한 것이 특징이다. 학습자의 수준과 취약 분야를 분석해 맞춤형 학습이 가능하도록 다양한 기능도 추가됐다.
듣기 학습은 EBS 프리미엄 콘텐츠와 함께 요지, 의도, 이유 등 17개 유형별 문제를 제공해 부족한 영역을 집중적으로 학습할 수 있도록 구성됐다.
어휘 학습도 강화됐다. 수능 필수 단어와 주제별 어휘를 카드형 단어장으로 제공하고, 매칭 문제와 불규칙 동사 학습 등 8개 유형의 문제를 통해 반복 학습이 가능하도록 했다. 오답노트 기능도 함께 제공해 틀린 문제를 다시 확인하며 학습할 수 있다.
새롭게 도입된 AI 회화 기능은 인공지능이 학습자의 영어 발음을 분석하고 평가 결과를 제공하는 방식으로 운영된다. 실생활 중심의 회화 연습을 통해 자연스러운 영어 말하기 능력을 키울 수 있도록 지원한다.
문법 콘텐츠 역시 기초부터 심화 과정까지 단계별 학습이 가능하도록 구성됐으며, 학습 진행 상황을 확인할 수 있는 학습허브와 학습 리포트, 1대1 문의 기능 등 사용자 편의 기능도 함께 개선됐다.
새롭게 개편된 대구 스마트리스닝은 홈페이지와 모바일 애플리케이션을 통해 이용할 수 있으며, 회원가입 후 무료로 학습 서비스를 이용할 수 있다.
박윤희 대구시 청년여성교육국장은 "이번 개편은 기능 확대에 그치지 않고 학습자가 스스로 학습 계획을 세우고 성장할 수 있는 환경을 만드는 데 중점을 뒀다"며 "앞으로도 AI 기반 교육 콘텐츠를 지속적으로 확대해 시민들의 영어 학습을 적극 지원하겠다"고 말했다.

The key feature of this overhaul is the expansion of the existing service, which was centered on English listening, into an integrated learning platform that includes listening, vocabulary, grammar, and AI conversation functions. Various features have also been added to enable personalized learning by analyzing the learner's level and weak areas.
The listening practice section is designed to allow for focused study on weak areas by providing 17 types of questions—including main idea, intent, and reason—along with EBS Premium content.
Vocabulary learning has also been enhanced. Essential CSAT vocabulary and topic-specific words are provided in flashcard-style vocabulary lists, and repetitive learning is enabled through eight types of questions, such as matching problems and irregular verb study. An error note feature is also included, allowing users to review and study incorrect answers.
The newly introduced AI conversation feature operates by having artificial intelligence analyze the learner's English pronunciation and provide evaluation results. It supports the development of natural English speaking skills through real-life conversation practice.
Grammar content is also structured to enable step-by-step learning from basic to advanced levels. User convenience features have also been improved, including a learning hub to check progress, learning reports, and a one-on-one inquiry function.
The newly revamped Daegu Smart Listening is available via the website and mobile application, and the learning service can be used for free after signing up. Park Yoon-hee, Director of the Youth and Women Education Bureau of Daegu City, said, "This reorganization focused not only on expanding functions but also on creating an environment where learners can set their own learning plans and grow," adding, "We will continue to expand AI-based educational content to actively support citizens' English learning."
