포항시의회 복지환경위원회(위원장 김만호)는 10일 유강정수장을 방문해 형산강 수위와 취수 여건, 대체용수 공급 현황 등을 확인했다고 밝혔다.

유강정수장은 하루 5만㎥의 물을 처리할 수 있는 시설로, 포항 남구 동지역을 비롯해 연일읍·구룡포읍·호미곶면 등에 생활용수를 공급하는 주요 정수시설이다.

최근 가뭄이 이어지면서 주요 취수원인 형산강의 수위가 낮아짐에 따라 포항시는 안정적인 생활용수 공급을 위해 영천댐에서 공급받은 대체용수를 활용하고 있다.

이날 현장을 찾은 복지환경위원회 위원들은 정수장 관계자들로부터 현재 형산강의 수위와 취수 여건, 영천댐 대체용수 공급 상황, 정수 처리 과정 등에 대한 설명을 듣고 시설 운영 상태를 직접 살폈다.

위원회는 최근 비가 내렸지만 현재의 가뭄 상황을 해소하기에는 강수량이 충분하지 않은 만큼 중장기적인 대응이 필요하다고 보고 단계별 비상대응체계를 점검할 것을 주문했다.

특히 가뭄이 장기화하거나 급격한 수원 변화 등 비상 상황이 발생할 경우 신속하게 대응할 수 있도록 관련 기관 간 정보 공유와 협력체계를 강화해 줄 것을 당부했다.

김만호 복지환경위원장은 “안정적인 수돗물 공급은 시민 생활과 직접 연결되는 중요한 행정서비스”라며 “가뭄이 계속되는 상황에서 생활용수 공급에 차질이 발생하지 않도록 취수원 관리와 정수시설 운영에 만전을 기해달라”고 말했다.

이어 “복지환경위원회도 시민들이 안심하고 수돗물을 이용할 수 있도록 생활용수 확보와 수질관리 상황을 지속적으로 살피고 필요한 지원책을 검토하겠다”고 밝혔다.
