이철우 경상북도지사는 20일 도청을 찾은 페데리코 미구엘 게레로 아벤다뇨 주한 엘살바도르 대사를 접견하고 산업, 문화, 교육 등 다방면에 걸친 상호 협력 확대 방안을 논의했다.

이 지사는 면담에서 "올해부터 매년 8월 30일이 '엘살바도르-한국 우정의 날'로 제정된 만큼 이번 만남이 양국의 우호를 더욱 높이는 계기가 되길 바란다"며 "중미 생산·물류 거점인 엘살바도르와 섬유 및 소재 산업 기반을 갖춘 경북 구미 등과의 협력 시너지가 클 것"이라고 강조했다.

이 지사는 경북의 기능성·친환경 섬유 소재 기술과 엘살바도르의 현지 생산 인프라 및 미국 시장 접근성을 연계하는 구상을 제시했다. 스마트 제조 및 섬유기계 등 고부가가치 산업 분야의 기업 간 교류를 확대해 북·중미 시장 공동 진출 기회를 모색하자는 취지다.

이와 함께 엘살바도르의 주력 생산 품목인 커피 등 농산물에 경북의 농업기술과 식품 가공 역량을 결합하는 농업·식품 분야 협력 방안도 함께 논의됐다. 교육·청년 교류를 비롯해 관광 및 문화 자원을 활용한 소통도 추진할 방침이다.
