With the implementation of the Tattoo Artist Act just over a year away, the tattoo industry in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions is accelerating training on new procedure standards to strengthen on-site hygiene, infection control, and safety.
The Department of Beauty Coordination at Daegu Health College recently held a "Special Seminar on Standard Guidelines for Tattoo Procedures" in collaboration with the Korea Tattoo Artists Association at the main conference room on the 3rd floor of the main building. The event garnered significant interest, with approximately 200 attendees, including tattoo artists and beauty industry professionals active in Daegu and Gyeongbuk.
This seminar was organized to prepare in advance for the Tattoo Artist Act, which will go into full effect on October 29 of next year. Its purpose was to share essential hygiene and safety standards that must be observed in the field and to help the industry adapt to the changing policies in advance. The Tattoo Artist Act stipulates standards for the entire industry, including the tattoo artist licensing and education system, as well as hygiene and safety management for tattoo establishments.
In particular, the "Standard Guidelines for Tattoo Procedures," announced by the Ministry of Health and Welfare last July, served as the central focus of the seminar's lectures. Detailed explanations were provided regarding facility and environmental management, hygiene and safety management for practitioners, and procedures to be observed before and after procedures. Participants showed keen interest in content that can be immediately applied in the field, such as infection control methods, sterilization and instrument management, consent forms, and post-procedure care.
During the Q&A session, a diverse range of opinions were exchanged regarding the practical difficulties encountered when applying standard guidelines to actual work and directions for improvement.
Starting with this seminar, Daegu Health College plans to focus on cultivating practical professionals capable of rapidly responding to regulatory changes by actively linking the university's educational infrastructure in the health and beauty sectors with expertise from the field. Daegu Health College and the Korea Tattoo Artists Association already joined hands last June to pledge cooperation in areas such as developing joint educational curricula, expanding hygiene and safety-focused education, and operating industry-linked programs.
President Nam Seong-hee of Daegu Health College stated, "It is now time for the fields of tattooing and semi-permanent makeup to establish themselves as professions that fundamentally require health and safety," adding, "The university will contribute to the implementation of the Tattoo Artist Act through systematic education and field-oriented preparation."
