지도부는 최근 현역 당협위원장 임기 일괄 종료 및 '당원 직선제' 도입을 추진했으나 중진 및 비당권파의 강한 반발에 봉착해 보류된 바 있다. 여기에 중앙윤리위원회가 조경태·권영진·진종오 의원 등 장 대표에게 대립각을 세워온 비당권파 인사들에게 최고 '당원권 정지 2년 6개월'이라는 중징계를 내리면서 "정적 제거용 징계"라는 비당권파의 거센 반발이 이어지고 있다. 

일부 비당권파 의원들 사이에서는 당협위원장 직선제 강행 시 연찬회 불참 및 집단행동까지 시사하고 있어 정상적인 행사 진행 여부가 초미의 관심사다.

국민의힘 지도부는 이번 연찬회를 통해 9월 정기국회 대응 전략을 수립하고, 민생 해결과 당 혁신을 위한 아이디어 발표(PT), 전문가 특강 등을 진행할 예정이다. 둘째 날에는 '2030 청년 토크'와 의원 전원 자유토론을 거쳐 국정 현안에 대응하는 결의문을 채택할 계획이다. 지도부는 당의 분열상을 불식시키고 정책 정당으로서의 면모를 강화하겠다는 방침이다.

국민의힘의 심장이라는 대구경북에서는 이날 연찬회 모양에 따라 당의 상황에도 변화가 있을 것으로 전망했다, 당의 한 관계자는 “이번 연찬회는 당원들의 뜻을 적극 반영하는 당원ㅍ주권 확립과 체질 개선을 확정 짓는 자리가 될 것”이라며 “정기국회를 앞두고 무분별한 내홍을 멈추고 거대 야당에 맞설 강한 당으로 전열을 정비해야 한다”고 강조했다.

반면, 또다른 측에서는 “이견을 내는 의원들을 징계로 입막음하고 당협위원장 직선제까지 강행하는 것은 당내 민주주의에 대한 사망 선고”라며 “연찬회 자리에서 지도부의 일방통행식 당 운영에 대한 매서운 성토와 책임 추궁이 있을 것”으로 전망했다.

The People Power Party leadership plans to use this workshop to formulate strategies for the September regular session of the National Assembly, and to conduct presentations (PTs) on ideas for resolving public livelihood issues and party innovation, as well as special lectures by experts. On the second day, they plan to adopt a resolution addressing current national issues following a "2030 Youth Talk" and a free discussion among all lawmakers. The leadership plans to dispel signs of internal division and strengthen its image as a policy-oriented party.

Experts view this workshop as a starting point that will determine the future of the People Power Party. If internal conflicts are temporarily resolved during the workshop through former President Park’s message and the leadership’s persuasion, the party will be able to reorganize its ranks and take the lead in the legislative and budget phases during the regular session.

On the other hand, if clashes are exposed head-on during free discussions—such as when shouting calls for the leadership’s resignation or disciplinary action against non-factional members erupt—the leadership will suffer a fatal blow. In this scenario, demands within the party to transition to an emergency countermeasures committee and hold an early national convention are highly likely to intensify. Furthermore, if non-factional forces, including senior members and the pro-Han Dong-hoon faction, accelerate their distancing from the party, the possibility cannot be ruled out that this could lead to a worst-case scenario of political realignment or party split, coupled with future disputes over nomination rights. In Daegu and Gyeongbuk, considered the heart of the People Power Party, it was predicted that the party's situation would change depending on the direction of the workshop held on this day. A party official stated, "This workshop will serve as a venue to solidify the establishment of member sovereignty that actively reflects the will of party members and to improve the party's fundamental structure," emphasizing, "With the regular session of the National Assembly approaching, we must halt reckless internal strife and reorganize our ranks to become a strong party capable of standing up to the massive opposition."

On the other hand, another side predicted, "Silencing dissenting lawmakers with disciplinary measures and forcing through the direct election of district committee chairpersons is a death sentence for internal democracy," adding that "there will be fierce condemnation and accountability demands regarding the leadership's unilateral management of the party at the workshop."
