포항시는 오는 9월부터 서울역과 포항을 잇는 KTX와 수서역에서 출발하는 SRT 운행 횟수가 각각 늘어남에 따라 주말 관광객 유치와 체류형 관광 활성화에 행정력을 집중한다고 밝혔다.

증편 규모는 하루 총 7회다. 서울역 구간 KTX가 매일 3회, 수서역 구간 SRT가 매일 4회 추가 운행된다. 특히 SRT 운행 확대에 따라 강남권을 비롯해 판교와 분당, 화성 등 수도권 동남부 지역에서 포항으로 이동하는 관광객의 교통 편의가 한층 높아질 것으로 전망된다.

포항시는 금요일 저녁이나 토요일 오전 출발이 가능한 교통 여건이 마련되면서 주말 1박 2일 관광 수요가 확대될 가능성이 큰 것으로 보고 있다.

이에 따라 하반기 주요 축제와 관광 콘텐츠를 철도 이용객의 여행 일정과 연결하고 숙박과 체험, 관광서비스 이용으로 이어지는 관광상품을 강화할 계획이다.

가을부터 겨울까지 계절별 관광 프로그램도 이어진다. 10월에는 포항운하 일원에서 ‘낙화의 밤’을 열고, 11월에는 ‘포항해병대문화축제’와 ‘포항국제불빛축제’를 개최한다. 연말에는 12월 ‘호미곶 한민족해맞이축전’을 통해 겨울철 관광객 유치에 나선다.

추석 연휴를 겨냥한 관광 홍보도 강화한다. 포항시는 숙박 프로모션과 호미반도 해안둘레길 인증 이벤트 등을 마련하고 주요 리조트와 연계해 지역 대표 관광자원과 연휴 기간 프로그램을 알릴 예정이다.

외국인 관광객 확보를 위한 활동도 병행한다. 해외 여행업계와 협업해 팸투어를 진행하고 관광상품 개발과 온라인 홍보 등을 추진해 포항을 국내외 여행객의 관광 목적지로 알린다는 구상이다.

포항시는 그동안 인천공항 리무진 광고와 국내외 관광박람회 참가, 중국·일본 현지 관광설명회 등을 통해 관광 홍보를 이어왔다. 해외 여행업계 관계자와 인플루언서를 초청하는 팸투어를 통해 관광상품 개발과 실제 방문객 유치로 연결하는 사업도 추진해 왔다.

관광객이 포항에 도착한 이후 편리하게 여행할 수 있도록 관광정보와 교통체계 개선도 추진한다.

내년에는 포항역에 AI 기반 관광안내 서비스를 도입할 예정이다. 관광지와 추천 코스는 물론 대중교통과 음식점 등 여행에 필요한 정보를 통합 제공해 관광객의 정보 접근성을 높이고 지역 내 체류와 소비를 유도한다는 계획이다.

광역 단위 관광교통 인프라 개선에도 50억 원이 투입된다. 포항시는 문화체육관광부의 ‘초광역형 관광교통 혁신 선도지구’ 공모사업에 선정됨에 따라 2026년부터 2028년까지 관련 사업을 추진한다.

이 사업은 경상북도가 주관하고 대구시와 포항시, 경주시, 안동시가 협력하는 형태로 진행된다. 포항시는 주요 교통거점과 관광지를 연결하는 새로운 교통수단을 도입해 관광객의 이동 편의성을 높일 계획이다.
