Yeongcheon City Inspects Major Pending Issues, Including Expanding Resident Population and Securing National and Provincial Funding
Yeongcheon City inspected the expansion of its resident population, the identification of national and provincial funding projects, and the progress of major pending projects, while calling for citizen-centered administration and active work improvements.
Yeongcheon City announced that it held its September expanded executive meeting and regular staff meeting consecutively on the 1st to review major municipal issues, while emphasizing field-oriented administration and change and innovation to public officials.
At the expanded executive meeting held in the City Hall conference room on that day, it was decided to continue consultations with Gyeongsangbuk-do Province to proactively identify necessary national and provincial funding projects for the region, ensure thorough preparation for each project, and ensure they are reflected in mid-to-long-term regional development plans.
Measures to expand the resident population were also addressed as a major pending issue. Yeongcheon City's monthly average resident population for the first quarter of 2026 was recorded at 378,000.
The city plans to devise departmental response measures to go beyond merely increasing the registered population. By linking cultural, tourism, and sports events with the commuting population to its "living population" policy, the city aims to encourage external visitors and workers to stay longer in Yeongcheon, thereby boosting local consumption.
At the regular staff meeting held at the Yeongcheon Civic Center, the mayor commended the hard work of employees who participated in various pending tasks last August, including responding to the heatwave and drought and conducting the Ulchi Exercise.
He then urged them to proceed with key tasks for the second half of the year without any setbacks, adhering to schedule. These tasks include securing national and provincial budgets for September and October, preparing for the opening of Let's Run Park Yeongcheon, and promoting local festivals and various events.
Yeongcheon Mayor Kim Byeong-sam mentioned the slogan of his 9th popular election administration, "The Name of Our Lives is Yeongcheon," and emphasized that the center of administration must lie with the citizens and the field. In particular, regarding civil complaint handling, he called for communicative administration that examines matters from the citizens' perspective, such as fully explaining the reasons in a way that the complainant can understand, even for issues that are difficult to process under laws or regulations, and providing advance notice of the processing status even when a review is in progress.
Mayor Kim also emphasized the improvement of public officials' daily work.
Mayor Kim Byung-sam stated, "Continuous change and innovation are necessary to respond to the rapidly changing administrative environment," adding, "Even if it is not a major change, if we identify areas for improvement in our respective duties and implement them, and create small changes based on our affection for the region, it will lead to greater development for Yeongcheon."
