Andong City Supports Recovery for Farms Damaged by Strong Winds and Hail… “All-out Effort for Resuming Farming”

Andong City has stepped forward to provide on-site support to help fruit farms in the Andong region recover from damage caused by strong winds and hail ahead of the harvest season.

Andong City announced that it is conducting recovery operations for farms damaged by the strong winds and hail that occurred in the Pungsan-eup and Bukhu-myeon areas on August 31, and is supporting farmers in the swift resumption of farming.

Due to this weather damage, some apple orchards suffered damage such as fallen trees and falling fruit. In particular, it is critical to collect and dispose of fallen fruit in a timely manner, as damage caused by external impact can lead to rapid decay.

Accordingly, on the 2nd, the city deployed approximately 200 personnel to the affected sites, including public officials, the Andong City Volunteer Disaster Prevention Corps, the Saemaul Council, and the Farmers' Housewives Association. The participating personnel carried out recovery work, such as setting up fallen apple trees and collecting fallen fruit scattered throughout the orchards.

Support for rural labor also continued. Andong Waryong Agricultural Cooperative deployed about 10 foreign seasonal workers to affected farms to assist in straightening fallen apple trees.

Efforts were also made to alleviate the burden of recovery through the provision of agricultural machinery. The Andong City Agricultural Technology Center is supporting affected farms by allowing them to utilize rental machinery, such as mini excavators, and the Daegyeong Apple Horticultural Cooperative plans to purchase collected fallen fruit to reduce economic losses for the farmers.

Andong City plans to continue supporting affected farms by conducting investigations to determine the exact scale of the damage, while continuing to provide the necessary manpower and equipment for recovery, so that they can resume normal farming activities as soon as possible.

An official from Andong City stated, "We have stepped forward to provide on-site recovery support to ease the difficulties faced by farmers who suffered damage from sudden strong winds and hail just before the harvest season," adding, "We will conduct damage assessments quickly and accurately and provide all necessary support so that farmers can return to their farming fields as soon as possible."
