A radiologist who had been struggling with managing patient radiation exposure in clinical settings has published research findings in an international SCI-indexed journal based on their actual experience.

Min Jeong-bok (50, Angiography Department, Ulsan Central Hospital) completed the Digital Medical Device Quality Management course in the Medical Convergence Radiation Technology major at the Graduate School of Health Sciences, Daegu Health University. Recently, he published a paper titled "Evaluation of Effective Dose and Development of Conversion Factors for Cerebral Angiography Using Area Dose" in the 2026 edition of the international journal *Diagnostics*.

In this study, Mr. Min proposed area dose-based conversion factors to enable a more rapid and realistic estimation of the actual radiation exposure received by patients during cerebral angiography.

Cerebral angiography is a diagnostic procedure that uses radiation to diagnose or treat vascular conditions, making the accurate management of the radiation dose received by patients paramount. In particular, angiography departments have always faced difficulties in immediately verifying and managing actual exposure levels due to the complex nature of the examination process and varying conditions for each patient. Min’s research is significant because it enables the easy estimation of effective dose by utilizing area dose values that can be immediately verified during the examination. Since the effective dose can be calculated solely from the area dose without complex computational simulations or additional measurements, it offers the advantage of allowing for faster and more practical management of patient radiation exposure levels in clinical settings.

After graduating from the Department of Radiology (currently the Department of Radiation) at Daegu Health College in 1998, Min has accumulated extensive clinical experience in the Angiography Unit at Ulsan Central Hospital. This case, in which clinical issues were developed into research and a thesis during graduate school, demonstrates that concerns from the field can lead to academic achievements.

Professor Kim Jeong-soo of the Department of Radiology at Daegu Health College served as the advisor for this study, contributing to the concretization of clinical issues into academic research.

Min shared his thoughts, stating, "I was able to grow to the next level by expanding my clinical experience into academic value during the Master of Technical Skills program," and added, "Through this research, I came to reflect once again on the role of radiographers in quality control of medical imaging examinations and the importance of dose management." Meanwhile, Daegu Health College’s Graduate School of Health Technology operates a curriculum designed to enable industry professionals to develop their clinical experience into practice-oriented education and research. A college official stated, “The publication of this paper is an example demonstrating that field experience can lead to international academic achievements through graduate education and research,” adding, “We will continue to strive to foster practical experts in the future.”
