North Gyeongsang Province Expands Economic Cooperation in Ho Chi Minh City… Strengthening Trade and Corporate Support Linked to the Saemaul Movement

North Gyeongsang Province plans to use Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, as a base to expand the scope of cooperation under the Saemaul Movement into the economic and cultural sectors, and to explore ways to strengthen support for companies operating locally.

North Gyeongsang Province announced that Vice Governor Hwang Myung-seok will visit Ho Chi Minh City from the 11th to the 12th to meet with local government officials, business leaders, university representatives, and officials from related organizations to discuss trade and exchange cooperation plans.

This visit was arranged to expand areas of cooperation between the two regions based on the Vietnam Saemaul Globalization Project, which North Gyeongsang Province has been promoting for over 20 years. The main objective is to broaden the scope of cooperation beyond existing exchanges centered on rural development to include the economy, culture, and talent development.

On the first day of the visit, the 11th, Vice Governor Hwang will visit the North Gyeongsang Province Ho Chi Minh Overseas Office to inspect local operations and the status of corporate support. Following this, he will meet with overseas advisory committee members and officials from the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Chamber of Commerce and Industry to hear their opinions on pioneering overseas markets, attracting investment, and revitalizing international exchanges.

A meeting with high-ranking officials from the Ho Chi Minh City government is also scheduled. As the two regions mark the 10th anniversary of their friendly exchanges, the plan is to review past cooperation achievements and discuss ways to expand mutually beneficial cooperation in the future.

On the 12th, he will attend the ‘Global Saemaul Economic Cooperation Conference’ held at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities. At this event, the achievements of Gyeongbuk Province’s Saemaul Globalization Project will be shared, and plans to expand the scope of cooperation into the economic and cultural sectors will be discussed.

Gyeongbuk Province, Yeungnam University, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities, and the Saemaul Foundation are scheduled to sign a ‘Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation for the Saemaul Globalization Project’ during the conference. Through this agreement, they plan to promote academic research and talent development related to the Saemaul Movement, as well as expand exchanges in the economic and cultural fields. A schedule has also been arranged to inspect the management operations of Gyeongbuk companies operating locally. Vice Governor Hwang will visit Daeyoung Electronics' Vietnam subsidiary, located near Ho Chi Minh City, to tour the production facilities and verify the company's operational status.

Following this, he will hold a meeting with Gyeongbuk business leaders operating in Vietnam to listen to changes in the trade environment of the Southeast Asian market, including Ho Chi Minh City, as well as the difficulties faced by local companies. Based on the opinions expressed during the meeting, Gyeongbuk Province plans to review support measures for companies expanding into overseas markets.

Hwang Myung-seok, Vice Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, stated, "We will use this visit as an opportunity to expand the Saemaul Movement—a representative asset of Gyeongbuk’s international cooperation—into economic cooperation and to devise practical support measures through communication with local business leaders." He added, "We will expand exchanges with Ho Chi Minh City into the economic and business sectors to strengthen the foundation for mutual development through cooperation."
