【브레이크뉴스 구미 】김영수 기자=구미시는 수점동 대성저수지 일원의 협소하고 선형이 불량했던 도로를 확장·정비하는 ‘지방도 905호선 개설사업’을 마무리하고 전 구간을 전면 개통했다고 10일 밝혔다. 이에 따라 오랜 기간 도로 확장을 건의해 온 지역 주민들의 오랜 숙원이 해결되며 통행 편의와 교통안전이 한층 개선될 전망이다.

구미시에 따르면 해당 도로는 그간 차량 교행이 어려울 정도로 폭이 좁고 선형이 불량해 주민들의 개선 요구가 끊이지 않았다. 특히 2024년 이전에는 비법정도로로 남아있어 편입 토지 보상 협의가 난항을 겪는 등 사업 추진에 차질이 빚어지기도 했다.

구미시는 이를 해결하기 위해 24년 7월 해당 노선을 지방도 905호선으로 지정하고 도로구역을 결정하여 토지수용 절차를 밟을 수 있는 법적 기반을 다졌다. 이와 동시에 도비 보조금을 확보하여 재원을 마련했다. 비록 편입 토지 보상 관련 민원과 소송 등으로 공사가 일시 지연되기도 했으나, 법적 절차에 따라 지난 8월 최종 토지를 확보하며 공사를 성공적으로 마무리했다.

이번 사업은 지난 25년 3월에 착공해 총사업비 18억 8천만 원이 투입되었으며, 김천시 경계에서 대성저수지 연결도로에 이르는 총 456m 구간을 왕복 2차로로 확장·정비했다. 구불구불했던 기존 도로 선형을 개량하고 가로등을 신설하여 주야간 통행 안전성을 크게 높였다.

김장호 구미시장은 “오랜 기간 주민들이 필요성을 건의하고 기다려 온 사업인 만큼 이번 도로 개통의 의미가 크다”며 “공사 기간 불편을 감내해 주신 주민들께 감사드리며, 앞으로도 시민이 체감할 수 있는 도로 인프라 확충에 힘쓰겠다”고 밝혔다.
