The ‘2026 Gumi Local Food Festa,’ organized by Gumi City to boost consumption of its premium agricultural products in the Seoul metropolitan area and expand domestic and international sales channels, has successfully wrapped up its two-day run.

Held at Seoul Plaza on the 9th and 10th, the event featured the slogan: “Gumi-Grown, Gumi-Craved!” (A play on words combining the city name ‘Gumi’ with the Korean word for ‘taste/appetite’). Marking its third year, the festival involved 40 local farms and businesses operating 51 booths. They showcased 142 items—ranging from Gumi Hanwoo beef, rice, melons, and flour to processed foods (branded as ‘G-Food’) such as frozen gimbap and marble-shaped tteokbokki—capturing the attention of consumers in the capital region.

Timed just before the Chuseok holiday, the event drew an enthusiastic response thanks to significant discounts. During the festival, Gumi Hanwoo beef was sold at up to 29% off, while G-Food products saw discounts of up to 55%. Notably, comedian Lee Seon-min, a Gumi native and the city’s promotional ambassador, contributed to the event’s success by hosting surprise auctions and on-site interviews to highlight the quality of Gumi’s agricultural products.

Beyond simple on-site sales, the event achieved success in securing sustainable, large-scale sales channels. Gumi City signed a rice purchase agreement with the Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NongHyup) and a separate agreement with the Gumi Hometown Association in Seoul to promote the consumption of local agricultural products. Furthermore, the city actively sought to secure steady clients by targeting major companies in the metropolitan area and natives of Gumi living elsewhere for holiday gifts and bulk orders.

A foundation for entering the global market was also established. Held in conjunction with the main event, an export consultation session for overseas buyers attracted participants from six countries—including the U.S., Canada, Japan, Mexico, Guatemala, and Malaysia—alongside 14 local companies. Through one-on-one consultations, the participants showcased the competitiveness of local agricultural products and actively explored future export opportunities.

Additionally, the venue featured promotional booths highlighting "Gumi Wheat Flour" as well as tourism, the Hometown Love Donation System, and policies supporting relocation to rural areas, thereby showcasing the diverse appeal of Gumi to visitors.

Gumi Mayor Kim Jang-ho stated, "Securing stable markets is just as important as producing high-quality agricultural specialties." He added, "Through this event, we aim to effectively demonstrate the excellence of Gumi’s agricultural products to consumers in the Seoul metropolitan area and ensure that on-site purchases lead to repeat business, and that these initial encounters pave the way for new sales channels."
