포스코그룹은 오는 16일부터 18일까지 부산 벡스코(BEXCO)에서 열리는 ‘2026 기후산업국제박람회’에 포스코홀딩스, 포스코, 포스코인터내셔널, 포스코이앤씨가 공동으로 참여한다고 밝혔다.

올해 박람회는 ‘기후테크가 만드는 거대한 변화, 탈탄소 세상을 향한 도약’을 주제로 열린다. 기후에너지환경부와 국제에너지기구(IEA), 세계은행 등이 공동 주최하며 기후위기 대응과 탈탄소 산업 전환을 위한 기술과 정책, 국제 협력 방안 등이 논의된다.

포스코그룹은 이번 행사에서 ‘POSCO, 탈탄소 철강으로 K-GX 생태계를 열다’를 주제로 4개 계열사가 함께 구성한 통합 전시관을 선보인다.

전시 공간은 ▲탈탄소 혁신기술 ▲핵심소재 ▲무탄소에너지 ▲K-GX 생태계 등 4개 구역으로 나뉜다.

탈탄소 혁신기술 구역에서는 포스코가 개발 중인 수소환원제철 기술 ‘하이렉스(HyREX)’를 비롯해 고로 기반 탄소저감 기술과 전기로 관련 기술 등을 소개한다.

하이렉스는 철광석에서 산소를 제거하는 환원 과정에 석탄 대신 수소를 활용하는 방식이다. 포스코는 2028년 포항에 연간 30만t 규모의 하이렉스 실증설비를 구축하고, 2030년까지 상용화에 필요한 기술을 확보한다는 계획이다.

핵심소재 구역에서는 에너지저장장치(ESS), 데이터센터, 피지컬 인공지능(AI), 차세대 모빌리티, 전력 인프라 등 산업의 디지털·친환경 전환에 활용되는 철강 제품을 소개한다. 이를 통해 미래 산업에서 철강 소재가 담당할 역할을 제시한다는 구상이다.

무탄소에너지 구역에서는 포스코인터내셔널과 포스코이앤씨가 추진하는 에너지 사업을 함께 선보인다.

포스코인터내셔널은 국내 해상풍력과 태양광 사업을 비롯해 해외 재생에너지 사업 확대 현황을 소개하고, 포스코이앤씨는 원전과 소형모듈원전(SMR), 고온가스로 등 차세대 에너지 분야의 설계·조달·시공(EPC) 역량을 선보인다.

행사의 핵심 공간으로 마련된 K-GX 생태계 구역에서는 포스코그룹이 제시하는 동남권 탈탄소 산업 생태계 구축 구상을 확인할 수 있다.

포스코그룹은 포항 하이렉스 실증설비를 기반으로 동남권 지역에 민관 협력형 탈탄소 클러스터를 구축하는 방안을 추진한다는 계획이다.

동남권은 원전에서 생산되는 전력을 활용할 수 있어 무탄소 전력 공급 기반을 갖춘 데다 수전해 설비를 통한 청정수소 생산에도 유리한 지역으로 평가받고 있다.

포스코그룹은 이러한 지역적 여건을 활용해 수소환원제철 상용화와 청정에너지 공급을 연계하고, 철강산업을 넘어 제조업 전반의 탄소 감축을 지원하는 산업 생태계로 발전시킨다는 방침이다.

포스코그룹 관계자는 “이번 박람회를 통해 철강산업의 탈탄소 기술뿐 아니라 무탄소에너지와 핵심 소재 분야의 역량을 함께 소개할 것”이라며 “하이렉스 실증설비를 기반으로 동남권 탈탄소 클러스터 구축을 추진해 국내 산업의 탄소 경쟁력 강화에 기여하겠다”고 말했다.

POSCO Group is set to unveil its capabilities in steel decarbonization technologies—including hydrogen-based steelmaking—and carbon-free energy businesses at the Climate Industry Expo in Busan. The group also plans to introduce its vision for the "K-GX ecosystem," designed to support carbon reduction across industries, with a focus on the steel sector.

POSCO Group announced that POSCO Holdings, POSCO, POSCO International, and POSCO E&C will jointly participate in the "2026 Climate Industry Expo," held at BEXCO in Busan from the 16th to the 18th.

This year’s expo is themed "Massive Change Driven by Climate Tech: A Leap Toward a Decarbonized World." Co-hosted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, the International Energy Agency (IEA), and the World Bank, the event will feature discussions on technologies, policies, and international cooperation strategies for addressing the climate crisis and transitioning to a decarbonized industrial landscape.

At the event, POSCO Group will present a joint exhibition pavilion created by its four affiliates under the theme: "POSCO: Opening the K-GX Ecosystem with Decarbonized Steel."

The exhibition space is divided into four zones: Decarbonization Innovation Technologies, Core Materials, Carbon-Free Energy, and the K-GX Ecosystem.

The Decarbonization Innovation Technologies zone will showcase "HyREX"—a hydrogen-based steelmaking technology currently under development by POSCO—as well as blast furnace-based carbon reduction technologies and electric arc furnace-related technologies.

HyREX is a process that utilizes hydrogen instead of coal for the reduction stage, which removes oxygen from iron ore. POSCO plans to construct a HyREX demonstration plant with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons in Pohang by 2028 and secure the technologies necessary for commercialization by 2030.

The "Core Materials" zone showcases steel products utilized in the digital and eco-friendly transformation of industries—such as energy storage systems (ESS), data centers, physical AI, next-generation mobility, and power infrastructure—thereby illustrating the pivotal role steel materials will play in future industries.

The "Carbon-Free Energy" zone presents energy projects currently being pursued by POSCO International and POSCO E&C.

POSCO International highlights the status of its expanding renewable energy portfolio, including domestic offshore wind and solar power projects, while POSCO E&C showcases its engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) capabilities in next-generation energy sectors such as nuclear power plants, small modular reactors (SMRs), and high-temperature gas-cooled reactors.

In the "K-GX Ecosystem" zone—the event's centerpiece—visitors can explore POSCO Group’s vision for establishing a decarbonized industrial ecosystem in the southeastern region.

POSCO Group plans to build a public-private decarbonization cluster in the southeastern region, anchored by the HyREX demonstration plant in Pohang.

The southeastern region is considered an ideal location, as it possesses a foundation for carbon-free power supply—leveraging electricity generated from nuclear power plants—and offers favorable conditions for clean hydrogen production via water electrolysis.

By capitalizing on these regional advantages, POSCO Group aims to link the commercialization of hydrogen-reduction steelmaking with clean energy supplies, ultimately fostering an industrial ecosystem that supports carbon reduction across the entire manufacturing sector, extending beyond the steel industry alone.

A POSCO Group official stated, “Through this exhibition, we will showcase our capabilities not only in decarbonization technologies for the steel industry but also in the fields of carbon-free energy and core materials.” The official added, “We aim to contribute to strengthening the carbon competitiveness of domestic industries by pursuing the establishment of a decarbonization cluster in the southeastern region, based on the HyREX demonstration facility.”
