대구시는 신천 ‘프러포즈’의 공간 콘셉트를 ‘쉼·즐거움·연결’로 정하고, 오는 15일부터 29일까지 시민 의견을 받아 새로운 명칭을 선정한다고 밝혔다.

신천 ‘프러포즈’는 대봉교 하류 일대에 신천을 바라보며 휴식과 문화 활동을 즐길 수 있는 다목적 복합문화공간을 조성하는 사업이다. 디자인 확정 이후 현재의 명칭을 사용해 왔지만 명칭을 둘러싼 논란이 이어지면서 사업의 공간적 특성과 취지를 충분히 담아내지 못한다는 의견도 제기돼 왔다.

이에 대구시는 시민 누구나 편하게 머물면서 휴식과 여가를 즐기고 다른 사람들과 자연스럽게 연결될 수 있는 공간이라는 새로운 방향을 반영해 명칭 변경을 추진하기로 했다.

새 이름을 정하는 과정에는 시민들의 의견을 적극 반영한다. 시민들은 대구시 홈페이지와 시민 소통 플랫폼 ‘토크대구’를 통해 신천 복합문화공간의 새로운 콘셉트에 어울리는 명칭을 자유롭게 제안할 수 있다.

접수된 아이디어는 향후 전문가 자문 등을 거쳐 검토되며, 대구시는 오는 10월 말까지 최종 명칭을 확정할 계획이다. 명칭 제안에 참여한 시민 가운데 약 50명을 추첨해 커피 쿠폰도 제공한다.

대구시는 이번 명칭 변경을 통해 신천 ‘프러포즈’가 특정 목적에 한정된 공간이라는 이미지를 벗어나 시민 누구나 일상적으로 찾을 수 있는 신천의 새로운 명소로 자리 잡도록 한다는 방침이다.

장재옥 대구시 맑은물추진단장은 “시민들의 다양한 생각을 담아 누구나 공감할 수 있는 새로운 이름을 선정하고자 한다”며 “신천의 새로운 랜드마크를 상징하면서 공간의 의미를 잘 표현할 수 있는 참신한 아이디어를 많이 제안해 주시길 바란다”고 말했다.

Jang Jae-ok, Head of the Clean Water Promotion Division for Daegu City, stated, "We aim to select a new name that resonates with everyone by incorporating the diverse ideas of citizens," adding, "We hope for many innovative proposals that symbolize a new landmark for Sincheon Stream and effectively capture the significance of the space."
