Gyeongju City Reviews 9th Popularly Elected Administration’s Pledges and Key Projects for 2027

Gyeongju City has initiated a review of projects to ensure the seamless implementation of pledges made by the 9th popularly elected administration and to concretize the direction of municipal operations for 2027.

On the 14th, the city announced that it held a "Report Meeting on 9th Administration Pledges and Key Project Plans for 2027" at Alcheon Hall, presided over by Mayor Joo Nak-young, to examine the progress and future execution plans of major projects.

The meeting was organized to formulate specific implementation strategies for the 9th administration's pledges while proactively reviewing schedules and funding plans for key tasks in the coming year.

Attendees included the Vice Mayor, heads of bureaus and divisions, and the heads of 44 municipal departments. Out of a total of 284 projects, the city selected 114 key projects requiring intensive management and reviewed their individual progress.

These 114 projects comprised 81 pledge-based projects, 6 directives from the mayor, 9 priority projects, and 18 new initiatives.

During the meeting, reports on key projects were presented by various departments, starting with the Culture & Tourism Bureau, followed by the Economy & Industry Bureau, Agriculture, Livestock & Marine Affairs Bureau, Urban Development Bureau, Citizen Welfare Bureau, Environment & Greenery Bureau, and the Post-APEC Headquarters.

Each department outlined current progress and future schedules for their respective projects and proposed plans to secure necessary budgets. They also shared potential obstacles and anticipated issues, discussing countermeasures to address them.

Particular emphasis was placed on the fact that the 9th administration's pledges represent a promise to the citizens; consequently, the city closely scrutinized the implementation schedules and feasibility of each project. Management strategies for each execution stage were reviewed to ensure that these pledges would not remain mere plans but would translate into tangible results that citizens could actually experience. For new and priority projects, the city reviewed both the necessity of implementation and local conditions. Discussions focused on refining strategies for each project—taking into account shifts in government policy and local industrial, tourism, and urban circumstances—and establishing a foundation for execution, such as securing external funding.

Gyeongju City plans to refine its implementation plans for each project based on the feedback received during this briefing and will provide ongoing oversight to ensure that the pledges of the 9th popular administration and key initiatives for 2027 proceed as scheduled.

Furthermore, the city intends to concentrate its efforts on projects that leverage the heightened global recognition and competitiveness gained from hosting last year’s APEC Summit, transforming them into engines for sustainable local growth across sectors such as tourism and industry.

Gyeongju Mayor Joo Nak-young stated, "The 9th popular administration marks a critical period for sustaining Gyeongju’s transformation and growth while translating our promises to citizens into tangible results." He added, "We will not only enhance the execution of our pledged projects but also channel the city's heightened competitiveness—bolstered by the APEC Summit—into sustainable growth drivers, ensuring that citizens can experience real, meaningful change."
