경주소방서에 따르면 음식점 주방은 잦은 기름 사용으로 후드 및 덕트에 기름이 고착된 후 조리 과정에서 불티가 착화 되어 화재 가능성이 높다. 또한 상업용 주방 후드 및 덕트 등에서 발생한 내부 화재는 외부에서 진압하기 어려운 경우가 많다.

주방 화재 예방 방법으로 주방자동소화장치가 효과적이다. 주방자동소화장치는 화재 발생 가능성이 높은 주방 천장에 설치하며 화재 발생 시 자동으로 소화약재를 분사해 화재 진압하는 기능을 한다.

한창완 서장은 “주방자동소화장치는 화재 초기 진압에 효과적이어서 대형 화재로 이어지는 상황을 막아준다”며, “음식점 종사자분들에게 화재 예방에 각별한 주의를 기울여 안전한 봄이 됐으면 한다”고 전했다.
