【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=경상북도 소방본부는 최근 포항 앞바다에서 해파리 출몰이 잇따라 발생함에 따라 휴가철 ‘피서객에 대한 각별한 주의’를 당부한다고 5일 밝혔다.

경북 소방본부에 따르면 동해안 해수 온도가 증가함에 따라 해파리의 번식과 생존에 유리한 환경이 조성되어 발생 빈도와 규모가 증가하고, 해양 생태계 변화 등에 따라 출몰 패턴이 달라질 수 있다. 따라서 출몰 지역과 시즌에 대한 정보를 주기적으로 확인하는 것이 중요하다.

경상북도 통계에 따르면 지난 3년 동안 관내 해파리 쏘임으로 인한 인명피해 사고는 총 38건이 발생했다. 연도별로 살펴보면 2021년 19건, 2022년 15건, 2023년 4건이 발생, 올해 7월 현재까지 6건이 발생하여 매년 사고가 발생하고 있다.

실제로 지난 2023년 8월 16일 오전 9시부터 오후 6시 사이 포항시 북구 오도리 ․ 흥환리 해수욕장 등에서 13명이 해파리에 쏘여 병원 이송했고, 올해 7월 22일 10시경에도 포항시 간이 해변에서 아동 2명이 해파리에 다리 등에 쏘임 사고가 발생했다.

주의 사항으로 피서객들이 바다에 들어갈 때는 전신 수영복을 착용하는 등 가급적 피부 노출을 최소화해 해파리에 쏘이지 않도록 주의를 해야 하며, 특히 호기심에 해파리를 만지지 않도록 해야 한다.

해파리에 쏘였을 경우 ▴남아있는 촉수를 핀셋 또는 카드로 제거하고 ▴얼음찜질 또는 온찜질로 상처 부위를 진정시켜야 한다.

주의 사항으로는 ▴담수나 알코올로 세척 하지 말고 ▴쏘인 부위를 문지르거나 압박하면 안 된다.

또한 여름철 해안가를 방문하는 피서객도 해파리 쏘임 사고 발생 시 응급대처 요령 등을 숙지해 주길 당부했다.

박근오 경북소방본부장은 “휴가철 바닷가 피서객이 늘어남에 따라 해파리에 의한 안전사고가 증가할 것으로 예상되며 해수욕장에서 해파리에 쏘였을 경우 신속히 119에 신고하여 줄 것”을 당부했다.

Gyeongbuk Fire Department Chief Park Geun-oh said, “As the number of beachgoers increases during the vacation season, safety accidents caused by jellyfish are expected to increase, and if you get stung by a jellyfish at the beach, please report it to 119 immediately.”
