이날 김진상 전 예비후보는 이상길 전 부시장과 직접 만나 지지 의사를 밝혔다. 

김 예비후보는 “지역의 미래를 설계할 실무 능력과 추진력을 갖춘 후보에게 힘을 보태기로 했다”며 “경선 결과에 깨끗이 승복하고 지역 발전에 전념하겠다”고 말했다.

지지 배경으로는 풍부한 행정 경험과 정책 실행력을 꼽았다. 김 후보는 이상길 전 부시장의 행정부시장 경험을 언급하며 “검증된 실무형 리더십이 지금 꼭 필요하다”고 강조했다. 경선에서 분열보다 통합이 중요하다는 점도 덧붙였다.

이상길 후보 측 역시 즉각 화답에 나섰다. 이상길 예비후보는 “큰 결단에 깊이 감사드린다”며 “제안해 주신 정책과 비전을 선거 과정에 적극 반영해 반드시 승리로 보답하겠다”고 밝혔다. 이어 ‘원팀’ 구성을 통해 본선 경쟁력까지 끌어올리겠다는 포부를 내비쳤다.

북구청장은 박갑상 전 대구시의원, 이근수 전 북구 부구청장, 이상길 전 대구시 행정부시장 간 3자 구도로 치러진다.
