지난 10~11일 양일간 한국갤럽이 대구지역 만 18세 이상 성인 805명을 대상으로 한 여론조사(조사방법: 무선전화 가상번호 전화 인터뷰)에 따르면, 주 부의장은 24%를 기록해 선두에 올랐다. 이어 이진숙 예비후보가 20%, 추경호 의원(달성군)이 16%를 얻었다.

주 부의장은 조사 결과를 두고 "민심의 흐름이 바뀌었다"며 "컷오프된 후보가 사라지기는커녕, 오히려 1위에 올라섰다"고 꼬집었다.

경선 제도 자체에 대해서도 뼈있는 비판을 이어갔다. 주 부의장은 "6인 경선과 컷오프 구조 자체가 대구 시민들의 정서를 제대로 반영하지 못하고 있다"고 지적하면서, "공천 방식도 처음부터 다시 논의할 필요가 있다"고 말했다.

특히 더불어민주당 김부겸 후보(수성구을)와의 1대1 가상대결에서 김 후보가 53%, 주 부의장이 35%로 크게 밀리는 점에 대해서는 "졸속으로 진행된 공천 절차와 경선 방식 탓에 시민들이 실망했다"고 해석했다. 

그리고 "이 결과는 TK(대구·경북) 민심이 현재 흐름대로면, 보수의 심장 대구에서도 국민의힘이 질 수 있다는 아픈 경고"라며 목소리를 높였다.

대안도 제시했다. 주 부의장은 "경선을 처음부터 다시 시작하거나, 컷오프된 예비후보와 최종 후보가 함께 시민들 앞에서 경합하는 것이 정답일 수 있다. 공천 과정은 대구 시민이 납득할 수 있어야 한다"고 강조했다. 

이어 "대구는 국민의힘이 저절로 이기는 '텃밭'이 아니다"라며, 달라진 시민 여론을 재차 강조했다.

이번 여론조사는 세계일보 의뢰로 진행됐다. 조사방식은 대구시에 거주하는 만 18세 이상 성인 805명(응답률 13.9%)을 대상으로 무작위로 무선전화 가상번호를 추출해 조사원 인터뷰 방식으로 이뤄졌다. 표본오차는 95% 신뢰수준에서 ±3.5%포인트다. 표본은 성별, 연령, 지역(수성구, 달서구, 동구, 남구 등)에 비례 가중값을 부여해 산출했다. 여론조사에 관한 자세한 내용은 중앙선거여론조사심의위원회 홈페이지에서 확인할 수 있다.

Regarding the survey results, Vice Speaker Joo remarked, "The flow of public sentiment has shifted," pointing out, "Far from disappearing, the candidate who was cut off has actually risen to first place."

He also continued to offer pointed criticism regarding the primary system itself. Vice Chairman Joo pointed out that "the structure of the six-person primary and the cut-off system itself fails to properly reflect the sentiments of Daegu citizens," adding that "the nomination process also needs to be discussed again from the beginning."

In particular, regarding the fact that he trailed significantly in a hypothetical one-on-one matchup against the Democratic Party of Korea's Kim Boo-kyum (Suseong-gu Eul)—with Kim receiving 53% and Vice Chairman Joo 35%—he interpreted this as "citizens being disappointed by the hastily conducted nomination procedures and primary method."

He further raised his voice, stating, "This result serves as a painful warning that if public sentiment in the TK (Daegu and Gyeongbuk) region continues its current trend, the People Power Party could lose even in Daegu, the heart of conservatism."

He also presented alternatives. Vice Chairman Joo emphasized, "The correct answer might be to restart the primary from the beginning or for the cut-off preliminary candidates and the final candidates to compete together in front of the citizens. The nomination process must be acceptable to the citizens of Daegu." He went on to emphasize once again the changed public opinion, stating, "Daegu is not a 'stronghold' where the People Power Party wins automatically."

This opinion poll was commissioned by the Segye Ilbo. The survey method involved interviewing 805 adults aged 18 or older residing in Daegu (response rate 13.9%) using randomly selected virtual mobile phone numbers. The margin of error is ±3.5 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. The sample was calculated by applying proportional weights based on gender, age, and region (Suseong-gu, Dalseo-gu, Dong-gu, Nam-gu, etc.).
