홍 후보는 “사실관계 정정을 여러 차례 요구했지만 받아들여지지 않았다”며 고발의 배경을 설명했다. 또 “선거 과정에서 허위 정보가 유포되는 일은 반드시 바로잡아야 하며, 이는 공정 선거의 기본”이라고 강조했다.

김 후보의 지역 대표성 문제도 거론됐다. 홍 후보는 “총선 이후 김 후보가 대구를 떠난 뒤 지역을 위해 한 일이 거의 없었다”고 비판했다.

또한 김 후보 캠프 인사의 과거 발언도 도마에 올랐다. 홍 후보는 공동선대위원장을 맡고 있는 권칠승 의원의 과거 발언을 언급하며 “대구 시민에게 상처를 줬던 만큼 반드시 사과가 필요하다”고 촉구했다. 

권칠승 의원은 국정감사 자리에서 “대구가 보수꼴통이고 극우의 심장”이라는 발언으로 논란을 일으킨 바 있다.

홍 후보는 “이번 선거가 대구 시민을 위한 정책과 진실을 놓고 평가받는 장이 돼야 한다”며 “허위 주장에는 끝까지 책임을 묻겠다”고 밝혔다.
