그는 추경호, 유영하, 최은석 의원 등을 언급하며 “대구 발전을 외치지만 정작 본인들의 생활 기반은 서울에 두고 있으니 납득하기 힘들다”고 강조했다.

이어 홍 후보는 서울 주택 보유 문제를 세 갈래로 비판했다. 우선 “대구에 생활터전이 없으면 지역 현안을 온몸으로 느끼기 어렵다”고 지적했다.

그는 “지방세를 서울에 내고 대구에는 세금 한 푼 내지 않는 구조 역시 시민의 의무 측면에서 부적절하다”고 비판했다. 

아울러 “임기 끝나면 서울로 돌아가는 모습은 대구 시민들 자존심에 상처를 줄 수 있다”고 경고했다. 이미 과거 사례를 통해 드러난 문제라고도 덧붙였다.

홍 후보는 “서울 집을 팔 생각이 없다면 후보직부터 내려놓는 게 최소한의 도리”라면서, “그렇지 않으면 대구를 그저 ‘표밭’으로만 바라본다는 오해에서 벗어나기 힘들다”고 목소리를 높였다.

또 “나 역시 국회의원 시절 서울 집을 사라는 권유를 받았지만, 거절했다”며 “대구에서 정치한다면 시민들과 울고 웃으며 살아야 한다고 생각했기 때문”이라고 본인의 경험을 밝혔다.

홍 예비후보는 같은 날 대구시장 출마를 선언한 더불어민주당 김부겸 전 총리를 겨냥한 공세도 이어갔다. 그는 “문재인 정부 당시 대구는 각종 정책과 예산에서 소외됐는데, 정작 김 전 총리는 아무 역할도 하지 않았다”고 비판했다. 

특히 “이미 결정된 사업마저 예산이 반영되지 않은 사례가 있다. 대구가 곤경에 처할 때 무엇을 했는지 묻지 않을 수 없다”고 쏘아붙였다.

정치 이력에 대해서도 날을 세웠다. 그는 “보수에서 출발해 진보로 옮겨 다니고, 수도권과 대구를 넘나드는 모습은 전형적인 ‘정치 철새’”라며 “선거 때마다 입장도, 지역도 달라진다”고 지적했다.

한편 홍 후보는 대구 현안에 대한 해법을 제시했다. 그는 “대구의 고질적인 미분양 아파트 문제를 풀기 위해 청년에게 주택을 무료로 제공하거나, 미분양 주택을 관광·숙박 인프라로 활용하는 방안을 추진하겠다”고 약속했다. 

또 “수도권과 지방을 같은 선상에서 묶는 부동산 규제를 완화해 지역 실정에 맞는 정책 전환이 필요하다”고 주장했다.

국민의힘 공천 과정에 대해서도 “일관된 기준이 부족했다”는 점을 지적하면서, “경선이 본격화된 만큼 결과에 깨끗이 승복하는 자세가 중요하다”고 덧붙였다.

He also shared his own experience, saying, “I was also advised to buy a house in Seoul during my time as a National Assembly member, but I refused. This was because I believed that if I were to engage in politics in Daegu, I should live sharing the joys and sorrows of the citizens.”

Preliminary Candidate Hong also continued his offensive targeting former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum of the Democratic Party, who declared his candidacy for Mayor of Daegu on the same day. He criticized, “During the Moon Jae-in administration, Daegu was marginalized in various policies and budgets, yet former Prime Minister Kim did nothing to address the situation.”

In particular, he lashed out, stating, “There have been instances where even projects that had already been decided were not included in the budget. One cannot help but ask what was done when Daegu was in distress.”

He also sharply criticized the political history. He pointed out, “Starting from the conservative camp, shifting to the progressive camp, and moving back and forth between the Seoul metropolitan area and Daegu makes one a typical ‘political migratory bird,’” adding that “both their stance and their region change with every election.”

Meanwhile, Candidate Hong presented solutions for Daegu’s pending issues. He promised, “To resolve Daegu’s chronic problem of unsold apartments, I will pursue measures such as providing free housing to young people or utilizing unsold housing as tourism and accommodation infrastructure.”

He also argued, “It is necessary to shift policies tailored to local conditions by easing real estate regulations that lump the Seoul metropolitan area and the provinces together.”

Regarding the People Power Party’s nomination process, he pointed out that “consistent standards were lacking,” adding, “Now that the primary election has begun in earnest, it is important to accept the results gracefully.”
