이번 사업은 주민이 직접 제안해 편성한 주민참여예산 300만 원을 투입해 추진됐다. 북침산네거리에서 침산네거리 동쪽 방면 구간의 신호등, 전봇대 등 50여 개 시설물을 대상으로 시행됐다.

해당 구역은 상가 밀집 지역으로 유동 인구가 많아 그동안 벽보와 전단지 등 불법 광고물 부착이 빈번했던 곳이다. 북구청은 생활환경 개선과 도시 미관 정비를 위해 이번 사업을 추진했다고 설명했다.

사업에 사용된 부착방지 도료는 특수 기능성 물질을 함유해 접착제나 벽보 등이 잘 붙지 않도록 설계돼 불법 광고물 부착을 근본적으로 차단하는 효과가 있다.

또 도색 과정에서 노후 시설물의 녹슨 부위와 벗겨진 부분도 함께 보수해 불법 광고물 방지와 시설물 정비, 도시 미관 개선이라는 일석삼조의 효과를 거뒀다.

북구청은 이번 사업이 적은 예산으로도 도심 환경을 효율적으로 개선한 ‘실속형 행정’ 사례가 될 것으로 기대하고 있다. 낡은 시설물의 수명을 연장하는 동시에 불법 광고물 제거에 투입되는 행정력과 예산 절감 효과도 클 것으로 전망된다.

배광식 북구청장은 “이번 사업은 주민들이 체감할 수 있는 깨끗한 북구를 만들기 위한 노력의 일환”이라며 “앞으로도 지속적인 정비와 관리를 통해 불법 광고물 없는 쾌적한 도심 환경 조성에 최선을 다하겠다”고 말했다.
