【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=계명대학교가 4월 17일 베트남 하노이 투이로이대학교에 ‘대구글로벌센터’를 개소하고 해외 유학생 유치와 교육 협력 확대를 위한 거점 운영에 들어갔다.

이번 센터 개소는 지역혁신중심 대학지원체계(RISE) 사업의 일환으로 추진됐으며, 대구 지역 대학의 국제화 경쟁력을 높이고 우수한 외국인 인재를 선제적으로 확보하기 위한 전략적 사업으로 평가된다.

이날 열린 개소식에는 양 대학 관계자와 재학생 등 100여 명이 참석했으며, 센터 설립 경과 보고와 향후 운영 방향에 대한 논의가 이어졌다.

대구글로벌센터는 한국어 교육과 대구 생활 적응 교육을 중심으로 유학 준비 과정, 진학 및 취업 연계 프로그램, 단기 문화체험 과정 등을 통합 운영한다. 현지 학생들에게 사전 교육을 제공해 대구 유학 적응력을 높이고, 대구 지역 대학 진학을 체계적으로 지원하는 역할을 맡게 된다.

특히 센터에서는 계명한국어능력시험(KKPT·Keimyung Korean Proficiency Test)을 운영해 학습자의 한국어 능력을 평가하고, 이를 입학 전형과 연계할 계획이다. 또 대구 유학박람회와 설명회, 취업 연계 프로그램 등을 통해 실질적인 진학·취업 지원 체계도 마련할 방침이다.

민경모 계명대 국제처장은 “이번 글로벌센터 개소를 통해 베트남 현지에서 한국어 교육과 유학 지원을 동시에 제공할 수 있는 기반을 마련했다”며 “우수 유학생 유치뿐 아니라 유학생의 안정적인 정착과 진로 설계까지 지원하는 거점으로 발전시켜 나가겠다”고 말했다.

도 반 꽝(DO VAN QUANG) 투이로이대학교 부총장은 “이번 글로벌센터 설립은 양 대학 협력을 바탕으로 대구와 하노이 간 교육 협력을 한 단계 끌어올리는 중요한 계기가 될 것”이라며 “베트남 학생들이 한국어와 한국 문화를 체계적으로 배워 대구 유학을 포함한 더 넓은 진로 기회를 모색할 수 있기를 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

한편 베트남은 한국어 교육 수요가 빠르게 증가하는 국가로, 2025년 기준 초·중등학생 2만8,345명, 대학생 2만7,222명, 세종학당 수강생 2만251명 등이 한국어를 배우고 있다. 대구지역 내 베트남 출신 거주자는 1만1,471명으로 전체 외국인 거주자 3만7,776명 가운데 가장 높은 비중을 차지한다. 계명대에는 현재 베트남 유학생 2,162명이 재학 중이다.

Keimyung University Opens ‘Daegu Global Center’ in Hanoi, Vietnam… Launches Hub for Attracting International Students in Full Swing

On April 17, Keimyung University opened the ‘Daegu Global Center’ at Thuy Loi University in Hanoi, Vietnam, and began operating the hub to attract international students and expand educational cooperation.

The opening of this center was pursued as part of the Regional Innovation Center University Support System (RISE) project and is considered a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the international competitiveness of universities in the Daegu region and proactively securing outstanding foreign talent.

Approximately 100 people, including officials from both universities and current students, attended the opening ceremony held on the same day. The event included a report on the center's establishment process and discussions on its future operational direction.

The Daegu Global Center will operate an integrated program centered on Korean language education and adaptation to life in Daegu, offering preparatory courses for studying abroad, programs linking university admission and employment, and short-term cultural experience courses. It will play a role in providing local students with pre-education to enhance their adaptability to studying in Daegu and systematically supporting their admission to universities in the Daegu region.

In particular, the center plans to administer the Keimyung Korean Proficiency Test (KKPT) to evaluate learners' Korean language skills and link the results to the admissions process. It also intends to establish a practical support system for further education and employment through the Daegu Study Abroad Fair, information sessions, and job placement programs.

Min Kyung-mo, Dean of International Affairs at Keimyung University, stated, "With the opening of this Global Center, we have laid the foundation to provide both Korean language education and study abroad support in Vietnam simultaneously." He added, "We will develop this into a hub that not only attracts outstanding international students but also supports their stable settlement and career planning."

Do Van Quang, Vice President of Thuy Loi University, remarked, "The establishment of this Global Center will serve as an important opportunity to elevate educational cooperation between Daegu and Hanoi to the next level, based on the collaboration between the two universities." He expressed his hope that "Vietnamese students will be able to systematically learn the Korean language and culture to explore broader career opportunities, including studying in Daegu."

Meanwhile, Vietnam is a country with a rapidly increasing demand for Korean language education; as of 2025, 28,345 elementary and middle school students, 27,222 university students, and 20,251 Sejong Institute students are learning Korean. There are 11,471 Vietnamese residents in the Daegu region, accounting for the highest proportion among the total 37,776 foreign residents. Currently, 2,162 Vietnamese international students are enrolled at Keimyung University.
