【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=계명대학교(총장 신일희) 영상애니메이션과 김명석 학생이 제작한 3D 단편 애니메이션 ‘업그레이드’가 지난 4일 SBS 독립 애니메이션 전문 프로그램 <애니갤러리>를 통해 방영됐다. 방송에서는 작품 상영과 함께 ‘감독과의 대화’ 코너를 통해 제작자 인터뷰가 함께 소개됐다.

‘업그레이드’는 급변하는 미래 사회에서 인간이 겪는 불확실성과 내면의 갈등, 그리고 그 속에서 발견되는 희망과 성찰을 주제로 한 작품이다. 첨단 기술 발전과 그에 따른 파괴가 공존하는 세계관을 배경으로, 인간적인 질문을 시각적으로 풀어냈으며, 감정의 흐름을 상징적으로 표현한 연출로 호평을 받았다.

<애니갤러리>는 창의적이고 실험적인 독립 애니메이션을 소개하는 국내 유일의 전문 프로그램이다. 올해 5월 방영된 ‘Border’에 이어, 계명대 영상애니메이션과 학생의 작품이 올해 두 번째로 선정돼 방영됐다.

김명석 학생은 이번 작품의 기획, 캐릭터 디자인, 배경 연출, 사운드 구성 등 전 과정을 단독으로 수행했다. 전공 수업을 통해 습득한 제작 기법을 바탕으로 절제된 색채와 상징적 장면 구성을 활용, 영상미와 서사적 완성도 면에서 높은 평가를 받았다. 김 학생은 “미래에 대한 막연한 두려움과 기대를 영상으로 표현하고 싶었다”며 “이번 방송이 창작자로서의 방향성을 고민하는 계기가 됐다”고 소감을 밝혔다.

작품을 지도한 박형진 교수는 “기획부터 제작까지 모든 과정을 학생이 스스로 치밀하게 완성해낸 점에서 의미가 크다”며 “공중파를 통한 시청자와의 소통 경험은 향후 창작 활동에도 큰 자산이 될 것”이라고 평가했다.

찰리한 영상애니메이션과 학과장은 “학생들의 작품이 연이어 공중파에 방영된 것은 실무 중심 교육과 창의적 커리큘럼의 결실”이라며 “앞으로도 학생들이 자신만의 시선과 스토리로 도전할 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 전했다.

한편 김명석 학생은 이번 성과를 바탕으로 국내외 영화제 출품과 함께 애니메이션 기반의 융복합 콘텐츠 제작에도 참여하며 창작 활동을 이어갈 계획이다.

Keimyung University Student Kim Myung-seok's Animation "Upgrade" Airs on SBS <Ani Gallery>

The 3D short animation "Upgrade," produced by Keimyung University (President Shin Il-hee) student Kim Myung-seok of the Department of Film and Animation, aired on SBS's independent animation program <Ani Gallery> on the 4th. The program featured an interview with the creator in a "Conversation with the Director" segment alongside the film's screening.

"Upgrade" explores the uncertainty and inner conflict faced by humans in a rapidly changing future society, as well as the hope and reflection found within. Set against the backdrop of a world where cutting-edge technological advancements coexist with the resulting destruction, the film visually addresses human questions and garnered acclaim for its symbolic portrayal of emotional flow.

<Ani Gallery> is Korea's only dedicated program showcasing creative and experimental independent animation. Following "Border," which aired in May, this marks the second time a Keimyung University student's work has been selected for the program.

Kim Myung-seok independently completed the entire production, including planning, character design, background direction, and sound composition. Drawing on production techniques learned in his major classes, he utilized restrained colors and symbolic scene composition, earning high praise for the visual beauty and narrative quality of his work. Kim stated, "I wanted to express vague fears and expectations about the future through video," and added, "This broadcast provided an opportunity for me to reflect on my future direction as a creator."

Professor Park Hyung-jin, who supervised the project, commented, "It is significant that the students meticulously completed every step of the process, from planning to production, on their own. This experience of communicating with viewers through public broadcasting will be a valuable asset for their future creative endeavors."

Charlie Han, Dean of the Department of Film and Animation, stated, "The fact that the students' works have been repeatedly broadcast on public broadcasting is a testament to our practical, hands-on education and creative curriculum. We will continue to actively support our students as they explore their own unique perspectives and stories."

Meanwhile, based on this achievement, student Kim Myeong-seok plans to continue his creative activities by participating in the production of animation-based convergence content as well as submitting his work to domestic and international film festivals.
