【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=계명대학교는 류수정 양궁 감독과 졸업생 장혜진 선수가 ‘2024 체육발전유공 포상 및 제62회 대한민국 체육상 전수식’에서 체육훈장 청룡장을 수상했다고 13일 밝혔다.

체육훈장 청룡장은 대한민국 체육훈장 중 가장 높은 등급으로 체육 발전에 크게 기여하고 국민체육의 위상을 높인 체육인에게 수여되는 최고의 영예다. 

1990년부터 34년동안 계명대 양궁 감독으로 재직한 류수정 감독은 리우올림픽 2관왕 장혜진 선수를 비롯한 국가대표 선수들을 배출하며 한국 양궁의 기초를 다지는 데 중요한 역할을 해왔다.

2010년 광저우 아시안게임에서는 여자 양궁 국가대표 코치로 팀을 이끌었고 2013년부터 2014년, 2018년부터 2021년까지 여자 양궁 국가대표 감독으로서 체계적이고 훈련 시스템을 적용해 우수한 성과를 거뒀다.

도쿄올림픽에서는 류 감독의 지도 아래 한국 양궁 팀이 단체전 금메달을 획득했다. 또한 안산 선수가 개인전과 혼성전에서 금메달을 따며 한국 여자 양궁팀은 단체전 9연패를 달성했다. 이러한 성과는 류 감독의 철저한 훈련과 지도력 덕분에 가능했다. 

계명대 체육학과를 졸업한 장혜진 선수는 2008년 베이징올림픽과 2016년 리우올림픽에서 금메달을 차지하며 양궁 역사에 길이 남을 성과를 이뤘다. 특히 2016년 리우올림픽에서 2관왕에 오르며 한국 양궁의 위상을 세계에 알렸다.

현재는 한국토지주택공사(LH) 차장으로 재직 중이며, 선수생활을 은퇴한 뒤에도 체육계에 기여하고 있다.

장혜진 선수는 류수정 감독에 대해 “내게 류 감독님은 단순한 지도자가 아니라, 양궁과 인생의 소중한 멘토”라며 깊은 존경과 감사의 마음을 드러냈다.

류수정 감독은 “선수들이 최선을 다해 준 덕분에 큰 성과를 거두었다”며 “앞으로도 양궁의 발전을 위해 지속적으로 노력하겠다”고 덧붙였다.

Coach Ryu Su-jeong, who served as the archery coach at Keimyung University for 34 years since 1990, has played an important role in laying the foundation for Korean archery by producing national team athletes, including Jang Hye-jin, a two-time Rio Olympic gold medalist.

In 2010, he led the team as the national women's archery coach at the Guangzhou Asian Games and from 2013 to 2014 and from 2018 to 2021, as the national women's archery coach, he applied a systematic and scientific training system and achieved excellent results.

At the Tokyo Olympics, the Korean archery team won the gold medal in the team event under the guidance of Coach Ryu. In addition, Ansan won gold medals in the individual and mixed events, making the Korean women’s archery team the 9th consecutive team event champion. This achievement was possible thanks to Coach Ryu’s thorough training and leadership.

Jang Hye-jin, who graduated from Keimyung University’s Department of Physical Education, achieved a long-lasting achievement in archery history by winning gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics. In particular, she made Korean archery known to the world by winning two gold medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

She is currently working as a vice president at the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) and has continued to contribute to the sports world even after retiring from her career as an athlete.

Jang Hye-jin expressed her deep respect and gratitude for Coach Ryu Su-jeong, saying, “To me, Coach Ryu is not just a coach, but a valuable mentor in archery and life.”

Coach Ryu Su-jeong said, “We were able to achieve great results thanks to the players’ best efforts,” and added, “We will continue to work hard for the development of archery in the future.”
