27일 계명대 동산의료원에 따르면 조치흠 원장은 나눔, 배려, 공유, 상생의 자세와 투철한 사명감으로 환자 진료, 후학 양성 및 의학연구를 위해 힘써 왔고, 지역 사회 감염병 발생 시 위기 극복에 기여한 공로를 인정받아 공로장을 수상했다.

그는 앞선 의술과 첨단 기술력으로 의료계 발전에 기여했고 2020년 2월, 코로나19 감염병 전담병원 비상대책본부장을 맡아 신속히 감염병 대응체계를 갖추는 등 대구지역 코로나19 극복에 크게 헌신했다.

특히 세계 최초로 병동 전체를 코호트 격리시키고 의료 인력의 적절한 배치 등 신속한 초기 대응을 통해 코로나19 확산을 막고 지역사회를 안정시켰고 코로나19 병원 운영을 통해 얻은 노하우와 지침을 논문으로 작성해 WHO 저널에 발표하기도 했다. 

이와 함께 30여 년간 의과대학 교원으로서 학생교육 및 지도와 환자진료에 전념하며 보건 복지와 지역사회에 이바지했으며, 부인암 수술의 권위자로서 대한민국의학한림원 정회원에 선출된 바 있다.

조치흠 의료원장은 “코로나19가 재유행하고 있는 시기에 지난 코로나19 대응과 나눔, 상생을 실천해 온 공로를 인정받은 뜻 깊은 상을 수상하게 되어 기쁘다”며 “앞으로도 계명대 동산의료원이 나눔과 섬김의 공동체로서 지역민들의 건강과 안전을 위해 노력하겠다”고 수상 소감을 전했다.

In particular, he was the first in the world to isolate the entire ward as a cohort and quickly respond by appropriately deploying medical personnel, thereby preventing the spread of COVID-19 and stabilizing the local community. He also wrote a paper on the know-how and guidelines obtained through the operation of the COVID-19 hospital and published it in the WHO Journal.

In addition, as a faculty member of a medical school for over 30 years, he has devoted himself to student education and guidance and patient care, contributing to health and welfare and the local community, and as an authority on gynecological cancer surgery, he was elected as a full member of the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences.
