박대기·김민태·이동석·최윤석·장지호 출마 예정자는 지난 16일 서울 여의도 국회에서 당 지도부와 공천관리위원회를 향해 “청년과 정치신인에게 실질적인 기회를 보장하는 결단이 필요하다”고 밝혔다.

이들은 “지금 우리 국민의힘에는 변화가 필요하다”며 “그 변화의 출발은 청년과 정치신인에게 실질적인 기회를 보장하는 것에서 시작되어야 한다”고 주장했다.

또 “서울, 충청, 영남을 비롯한 전국 각지에서 청년과 정치신인들이 지방자치단체장에 도전하고 있다”며 “이들은 단순히 나이가 젊은 후보가 아니라, 행정 경험을 쌓고 지역 현안을 연구해 온 준비된 후보들”이라고 강조했다.
