그는 39년간 쌓아온 행정, 중앙정부, 기업, 교육 현장 경험을 내세우며 "행정과 경영, 예산 확보 능력을 바탕으로 북구에 실질적인 변화와 성과를 만들겠다"고 포부를 밝혔다.  

이상길 전 부시장은 "지금 북구는 머물 것인가, 아니면 대구의 중심으로 다시 설 것인가의 갈림길에 서 있다"고 진단했다. 

이어 로봇산업의 성장, 공공기관 이전, 대구경북특별자치시 전환, 신공항 시대 등 북부권이 겪고 있는 구조적 전환기를 거론하며, "기회는 이미 와 있지만 준비된 사람이 잡지 못하면 다른 도시의 몫이 된다"며 성과 중심 리더십의 중요성을 강조했다.  

자신의 경력에 대해서는 "대구시에서 21년, 중앙정부에서 10년을 근무했고, 행정부시장으로 도시를 운영한 데다 엑스코 사장으로 기업 경영도 경험했다"고 소개했다. 

아울러 "예산이 어떻게 확보되는지, 정책이 어떻게 결정되는지, 중앙정부와의 협력 방안까지 현장에서 직접 배웠다"며, 행정과 경영, 정책과 현장 모두 경험한 것이 가장 큰 차별점이라고 밝혔다.  

정책 구상도 내놨다. 그는 로봇산업을 북구의 미래 핵심산업으로 육성하고, 침산 일대를 창업과 기술혁신의 거점으로 만들겠다는 방침이다. 

산격청사, 매천시장, 50사단 후적지, 농업기술원 부지 등 주요 유휴·전환 부지는 대구경북특별자치시 전환과 제2차 공공기관 이전, 경북대 칠곡병원 발전과 연계해 새로운 성장거점으로 삼겠다는 계획이다.  

금호강을 북구 번영의 상징으로 만들겠다는 비전도 제시했다. 국가정원 추진과 수변 개발을 통해 정주 여건을 개선하고, 대구역 KTX 정차, 청년문화센터 건립, 문화·스포츠 인프라 확충 등으로 젊고 역동적인 도시 이미지를 구축하겠다고 약속했다. 

아울러 "1동 1사업 주민결정제" 도입과 실효성 있는 도시재생으로 주민 중심 행정을 실현하겠다고 강조했다.  

이상길 전 부시장은 "행정은 권한이 아니라 책임"이라며 "중앙정부, 대구시, 지역사회와 협력해 북구에 필요한 예산은 반드시 확보하고, 각종 사업도 정부 정책에 반영되도록 힘쓰겠다"고 밝혔다. 

그러면서 "말이 아니라 진짜 실행으로 보여주겠다. 북구를 대구의 중심으로 반드시 다시 세우겠다"고 말했다.

Former Daegu City Vice Mayor Lee Sang-gil officially announced his candidacy for the Buk District Mayor election on the 24th through the People Power Party's Daegu City Chapter.

He highlighted his 39 years of experience in administration, central government, business, and education, and declared his ambition to "bring real change and achievements to Buk District based on his administrative, management, and budget-securing capabilities."

He emphasized the importance of performance-based leadership, saying, "Opportunities are already here, but if the right people don't seize them, they will fall to other cities."

Describing his career, he said, "I've worked for Daegu City for 21 years and the central government for 10 years. I've also managed the city as an administrative mayor and have corporate management experience as the president of EXCO."

He also stated, "I learned firsthand how budgets are secured, how policies are decided, and how to collaborate with the central government," adding that his experience in both administration and management, policy and field work, was the biggest differentiator.

He also outlined a policy vision. He plans to foster the robotics industry as a core future industry for Buk-gu and establish the Chimsan area as a hub for startups and technological innovation.

Key idle and converted sites, such as the Sangyeok Government Complex, Maecheon Market, the 50th Division's backyard, and the Agricultural Technology Institute, will be transformed into new growth hubs in conjunction with the transition to Daegu-Gyeongbuk Special Self-Governing City, the second round of public institution relocations, and the development of Kyungpook National University Chilgok Hospital.

He also presented a vision to transform the Geumho River into a symbol of Buk-gu's prosperity. He pledged to improve living conditions through the development of a national garden and waterfront development, and to cultivate a youthful and dynamic city image by establishing a KTX station at Daegu Station, building a youth cultural center, and expanding cultural and sports infrastructure.

He also emphasized his commitment to a resident-centered administration through the introduction of a "one-dong, one-project resident decision system" and effective urban regeneration.

Former Vice Mayor Lee Sang-gil stated, "Administration is not a matter of authority, but of responsibility." He added, "I will work with the central government, Daegu City, and the local community to secure the necessary budget for Buk-gu and ensure that various projects are reflected in government policies."

He added, "I will demonstrate this through action, not just words. I will reestablish Buk-gu as the center of Daegu."
