경선이 확정된 곳은 동구, 서구, 북구 세 곳이다. 특히 후보자가 대거 몰린 동구청장 경선에는 배기철, 서호영, 우승진, 정해용, 차수환 후보(가나다순) 등 5명이 이름을 올렸다. 서구청장은 권오상, 김대현, 송영헌 후보가, 북구청장은 박갑상, 이근수, 이상길 후보가 각각 경선 후보로 확정되어 치열한 접전을 예고했다.

추가 공모 이야기가 돌고 있던 중구의 경우는 현 공천 신청자인 류규하, 정장수 두 예비후보 가운데 한 사람을 선출하는 것으로 가닥을 잡았다. 추가 공모는 없다고 이 위원장이 못박았기 때문.  기타 수성구와 중구, 군위군은 이번 발표에서 제외됐다. 

이인선 공관위원장은 “경북보다 기초단체장의 공천을 빨리하는 것은 아무래도 민주당의 김부겸 대구시장 후보를 의식한 부분이 있다”고 고백했다. 그는 “4월까지는, 특히 기초단체장의 경우는 4월 안에 모두 끝내는 것이 원칙이다. 광역과 기초 의원도 대부분 마무리 짓고 5월부터는 원팀이 되어 결집할 수 있도록 하겠다”고 밝혔다. 

종합적 심사 결과? 당협위원장 입김 없었나 

이 위원장은 이번 심사의 기준을 묻는 질문에 "심사용 여론조사, 면접, 광역위원장 및 지역 의견 등을 종합적으로 검토했다"며 "특히 클린감시단을 통해 후보자들에 대한 각종 민원과 세평을 충분히 검증했다"고 밝혔다.

특히, 후보자가 5명으로 결정된 동구청장 경선에 대해서는 "현역 당협위원장이 공석인 상황에서 많은 후보가 몰렸고, 후보자 간 지지율 차이가 미미해(상중하 구분이 어려워) 다수를 경선에 참여시키게 됐다“고 설명했다. 그러나, 애시 당초 4명설이 돌던 것과 달리 한 명이 추가된 것은 이 지역 국회의원(당협위원장)의 입김이 작용했기 때문으로 파악되고 있다. 

심사 과정에서 당협위원장의 의중이 강하게 반영된 것 아니냐는 질문에 대해 공관위는 "당협위원장은 지역에서 오랜 기간 활동한 후보를 평가하는 참고 자료일 뿐"이라며 "공관위는 서류와 면접, 클린감시단의 객관적 검증을 우선시하며 당협위원장의 의견이 절대적인 것은 아니다"라고 거듭 강조했다.

최근 논란이 된 '경선 후보자 간 재경선 제안' 등 외부 요구에 대해서는 "이미 공당의 절차에 따라 경선이 시작된 상황에서 부적절한 제안"이라며 기존 절차를 고수할 뜻을 분명히 했다.

향후 일정은?... "다음 주 초 최종 후보 발표 예정"

공관위는 이번 주 중 광역의원 단수 및 경선 후보자 발표를 이어갈 예정이다. 기초단체장 경선은 오는 17일과 18일 양일간 진행될 것으로 보이며, 여론조사 기관 선정 등을 거쳐 다음 주 초에는 최종 후보가 가려질 전망이다. 이때 경선은 결선 없이 단 한번의 여론조사로 후보자를 확정한다. 

공관위 관계자는 "더불어민주당의 공세에 대응해 예년보다 빠르게 원팀을 구성하고자 한다"며 "4월 말까지 모든 공천 절차를 마무리하고 본격적인 선거 체제로 전환할 계획"이라고 밝혔다.
