【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=단독 추대로 구자근 의원이 차기 국민의힘 경북도당위원장을 맡게 된 것과 달리 대구시당은 경쟁하는 분위기다. 대구경북권에서는 좀처럼 보기 힘든 상황이 벌어지고 있는 것. 

정가에서는 이같은 경쟁 소식이 전해지면서 신선한 느낌을 받는다는 목소리도 들린다. 실제, 그동안 돌려먹기식 으로 위원장을 맡아 오던 관례를 깨고 경쟁 체제에 들어서게 된다는 점에서 주민 입장에선 환영할 만한 일이라는 여론이다. 다만, 지역 국회의원의 입장은 이러한 주민들의 생각과는 달리 속내가 복잡한 모양새다.

그동안 묻지마식 당선이라는 비아냥 섞인 조롱을 받아온 TK지역 국회의원들의 경우, 워낙 부실한 경쟁 체제 탓에 여의도 정치권에서 아무런 경쟁력을 발휘하지 못하고 있다는 비판이 끊이지 않았다. 

실제, 대부분이 TK와 PK 등 영남권 국회의원로 구성된 국민의힘은 윤석열 정부당시 여당임에도 불구하고 제대로 된 아젠다 하나 제시하지 못했고, 지난 12.3 계엄 및 탄핵 정국, 6.3대선에서는 무능력함의 극치를 보였다. 

이러다 보니 힘들때일수록 보수 심장의 심장이 되어야 할 TK국회의원들의 역할은 날로 작아져만 가고 있다. 

보수의 심장인 대구에서 이제는 제대로 된 보수를 가동시켜야 한다는 목소리가 커지고 있다. 그리고 그 목소리 뒤에는 처절한 각성과 혁신을 위한 개혁이 요구되고 있다. 심장부터가 바뀌어야 최소한의 기회가 주어진다는 위기감이 적잖이 작동하는 것이다.

이런 가운데 대구시당위원장 선출방식이 경선 될 가능성도 나오고 있다. 현재 시당위원장 후보로는 권영진, 이인선 두 재선의원이 준비하고 있다.

이인선 의원의 경우, 관례를 강하게 주장하고 있다. 그리고 그 관례는 지난 총선 전 현 강대식 위원장과 서로 차기 위원장직을 약속했다는 것. 이는 나이와 국회의원 선수를 의미한다. 

이에 반해 지난 해 총선에서 당선되어 국회 재입성한 권영진 의원의 경우, 차기 위원장직 약속에 대해 알 수가 없었던만큼, 이에 대하여 부정적인 생각을 가지고 있다. 권 의원은 당이 처한 상황, 대구경북의 리더쉽 부재 및 현안사업의 등을 챙기는 등 변화와 혁신을 대구에서부터 일으켜보고 싶다는 의견을 내고 있다. 

즉, 이인선 의원은 관례를 주장하고 있는 반면, 권영진 의원은 변화를 주장하고 있는 것이다. 

이 의원은 본지와 통화에서 “권 의원이 (국회의원으로 ) 들어오기 전에 우리는 순서를 정했다. 혁신을 하겠다느니, 공천을 뭐 어떻게 해보겠다느니 하는 것 같은데 욕심좀 내려놓으라 하라. 지금 나서는 건 솔직히 공천권 때문에 그러는 거 아니겠느냐”고 했다.

그러면서 지난 대구 지역 국회의원 모임에서의 일을 언급하며 “(대구지역 국회의원들이)알고 있는 사실을 있는 그대로 이야기하면 되지, 두 사람이 알아서 해결해 오라고 하면 우리가 달리기나 칼싸움이라도 하라는 말이냐. 경북은 이렇게 하지 않았다”고 불만을 나타냈다.

실제, 경북은 김정재, 임이자 두 의원이 경합을 벌일 당시 해당의원 들을 내보내고 나머지 의원들끼리 의견을 모아 결정한 바 있다. 이 의원은 “우리 대구 같은 경우, 이럴 때 조율하거나 뭐 좀 역할을 해주는 사람이 없다”며 “아쉬워했다.

이에 반해 권영진 의원은 ”나는 공천권에 관심 없다." 며 이인선 의원의 주장을 정면 반박했다.  위원장을 하더라도 공천은 별도의 공심위가 할 것“이라고 못 박았다.

그러면서 ”이럴때 일수록 리더십이 필요하지 않겠나. 나는 솔직히 그걸 하고 싶다. 공천이나 이런 건 (하고 싶은 분들이)다해라. 지금 우리 당이 이렇게 된 상황에서는 당원들의 결집을 유도하고 지역 현안을 함께 풀어나가야 하는 역할은 아무래도 내가 하는 게 조금이라도 도움이 되지 않겠나 하는 생각“이라며 ”이 의원께도 이런 말씀을 드렸다“고 말했다.

권 의원은 순서를 미리 정했다는 이 의원의 주장과 관련, ”지금은 우리 의도와는 달리 (정치적) 상황이 변했다. 또, 대구 경북이 리더십의 공백과 위기의 상황이다. 누군가는 이 위기 상황을 돌파해야 하고 새로운 동력을 이어줘야 하는데 아무래도 대구시장 재선과 국회의원 재선을 해 본 사람으로서 그 역할을 하는 게 유리할거라 생각한다“고 거듭 강조했다. 

특히, 권 의원은 ”지금은 대구시장도 없다. 리더십의 공백에 현안 사업들이 난간에 부딪혀서 한 치 앞도 내다보지 못하는 상황에서 이번 시당 위원장은 그 리더십의 공백을 메울 수 있는 그런 정치력과 의지가 있는 사람이어야 한다." 며 "그 절박함이 없이 시당위원장직을 그냥 왔다가는 단순한 봉사직이라고만 생각하면 안된다. 그런 현안들을 풀어내는 게 나의 소명이라고 생각하고 있다“고 재차 강조했다.

한편, 4일 두 의원이 빠진 상태에서 열린 지역 국회의원들의 모임에서는 관례대로 해야 한다는 쪽으로 의견으로 모아진 것으로 알려졌다. 하지만 지난해 시당위원장 선출에서 강대식 의원의 경우 이 관례가 깨졌다는 점에서 또다른 논란을 가져올 수있다는 지적이다.

On the other hand, Rep. Kwon Young-jin, who was elected in the general election last year and re-entered the National Assembly, had negative thoughts about it because he was not aware of the promise to become the next chairman. Rep. Kwon expressed his opinion that he would like to bring about change and innovation starting from Daegu, such as taking care of the party’s current situation, the lack of leadership in Daegu and Gyeongbuk, and current issues.

In other words, Rep. Lee In-sun is insisting on the custom, while Rep. Kwon Young-jin is insisting on change.

In a phone call with our newspaper, Rep. Lee said, “Before Rep. Kwon came in (as a member of the National Assembly), we decided on the order. He seems to be saying things like he will innovate and try to do something with the nomination, so tell him to let go of his greed. Honestly, isn’t he just running now because of the nomination rights?” While mentioning the incident at the previous Daegu regional assembly meeting, he expressed his discontent, saying, “(Daegu regional assembly members) should just tell the truth as it is, and if they tell the two of them to figure it out, are you saying we should run or fight with swords? Gyeongbuk did not do this.”

In fact, when Gyeongbuk was competing with Rep. Kim Jeong-jae and Rep. Im I-ja, they sent out the relevant assembly members and gathered opinions among the remaining assembly members to make a decision. Rep. Lee said, “In our case in Daegu, there is no one to coordinate or play a role in times like this,” and expressed regret.

On the other hand, Rep. Kwon Young-jin directly refuted Rep. Lee In-sun’s claim, saying, “I am not interested in the right to nominate candidates.” He firmly stated, “Even if I am the chairperson, the nomination will be handled by a separate public hearing committee.”

He said, “In times like these, leadership is needed more than ever. I honestly want to do that. Anyone who wants to do nominations or anything like that should do it. Lee as well.”

Regarding Rep. Lee’s claim that the order was set in advance, Rep. Kwon repeatedly emphasized, “The (political) situation has changed, contrary to our intentions. Also, Daegu and Gyeongbuk are in a state of leadership vacuum and crisis. Someone needs to overcome this crisis and provide new momentum, but I think it would be advantageous for someone who has been re-elected as the mayor of Daegu and re-elected as a member of the National Assembly to take on that role.”

In particular, Rep. Kwon said, “There is no mayor of Daegu right now. In a situation where current issues are hitting a snag due to a leadership vacuum and we cannot see even an inch ahead, the current city party chairman must be someone with the political power and will to fill that leadership vacuum.” He added, “If you come to the city party chairman position without that sense of urgency, you should not think of it as a simple volunteer position. I believe that resolving such issues is my calling.” Meanwhile, it has been reported that at a meeting of local lawmakers held on the 4th without the two lawmakers, the consensus was that we should follow the convention.
