【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=국민의힘 대구시당이 6·3 지방선거를 앞두고 경선 과정에서 불거진 갈등 수습과 시민 신뢰 회복을 최우선 과제로 내걸고 본격적인 선거 체제에 돌입했다.

이인선 국민의힘 대구시당 위원장은 30일 시당 당사에서 기자회견을 열고 “경선 과정에서 시민들이 느낀 실망과 분노를 극복해, 오로지 대구시민만 바라보는 선거를 치르겠다”며 시민 중심 선거 의지를 밝혔다.

이 위원장은 대구시장 후보 컷오프 과정에서 혼선이 있었던 점을 인정하면서도 “경선은 민주정당의 핵심 절차인 만큼, 그 과정에 대한 신뢰가 결과를 결정한다”고 말하며 경선 과정의 공정성과 절차적 정당성을 강조했다.

컷오프된 후보들에 대해서는 “서운함과 아쉬움에 공감한다”면서도 “선당후사의 마음으로 향후 선거 과정에 함께해 달라”고 호소했다. 무소속 출마 가능성에 대해서는 “분열로 이어지지 않도록 지역 정치권이 함께 설득에 나서겠다”고 밝혔다.

이 위원장은 향후 경선 과정에서 지켜야 할 원칙으로 △단일대오 유지 △네거티브 없는 정책 경쟁 △후보 경쟁력 강화 등을 제시했다. 

그는 “비방과 갈등은 정치 불신만 키울 뿐”이라며 “산업 구조 전환, 청년 일자리, 인구 감소 등 대구의 핵심 과제를 두고 실질적인 정책 경쟁에 집중해야 한다”고 강조했다.

중앙당 주도의 공천 방식에 대해서도 문제를 제기했다. 이 위원장은 “그동안 중앙당 중심의 결정으로 지역 민심과 괴리가 있었다”며 “이제는 대구시당이 중심이 돼 지역 상황을 반영하는 선거를 치러야 한다”고 말했다. 

최종 결정 권한은 중앙당에 있음을 인정하면서도 “시당이 의견을 전달하는 소통 창구 기능을 더욱 강화해야 한다”고 덧붙였다.

이 위원장은 이날 장동혁 대표를 만나 대구시당 중심의 선거운영과 관련해 협조를 요청했다고 밝혔다. 그는 “중앙당이 일방적으로 결정을 내리는 것은 지양하고, 지역과 충분히 협의해야 한다는 뜻을 전달했다”고 설명했다.

더불어민주당의 전략공천에 대응해서는 “강력한 후보가 내려온 만큼 위기 의식을 갖고 대응해야 한다”며 “대구 역시 더 이상 안심할 수 없는 지역이라는 인식이 필요하다”고 강조했다.

이 위원장은 “대구는 국민의힘을 지지해 온 지역이니만큼 시민 기대에 꼭 부응해야 한다”며 “공정한 경선과 단합된 공천을 통해 반드시 승리하겠다”고 밝혔다.

Regarding the candidates who were cut off, she expressed "sympathy for their disappointment and regret," but appealed to them to "join the upcoming election process with a spirit of putting the party first and personal interests second." Regarding the possibility of running as an independent, she stated, "The local political community will work together to persuade them so that it does not lead to division."

Chairman Lee presented the following principles to be observed during the upcoming primary process: maintaining a united front, engaging in policy competition free of negative campaigning, and strengthening candidate competitiveness.

He emphasized, “Slander and conflict only fuel political distrust,” adding, “We must focus on substantive policy competition regarding Daegu’s core challenges, such as industrial structural transformation, youth employment, and population decline.”

He also raised concerns regarding the central party-led nomination process. Chairman Lee stated, “There has been a disconnect from local public sentiment due to decisions centered on the central party,” and added, “Now, the Daegu City Party must take the lead to conduct an election that reflects local conditions.”

While acknowledging that the final decision-making authority lies with the central party, he added, “The City Party must further strengthen its function as a communication channel to convey opinions.”

Chairman Lee revealed that he met with Representative Jang Dong-hyuk on the same day to request cooperation regarding election operations centered on the Daegu City Party. He explained, “I conveyed the message that the central party should refrain from making unilateral decisions and instead engage in sufficient consultation with the region.”

** In response to the Democratic Party's strategic nomination, he emphasized, "We must respond with a sense of crisis, given that a strong candidate has been sent down," adding, "There is a need to recognize that Daegu is no longer a region where we can feel safe."

Chairman Lee stated, "Since Daegu has been a region that has supported the People Power Party, we must live up to the expectations of the citizens," and declared, "We will definitely win through fair primaries and a unified nomination."
