이어 “당초 국회의원들이 시당위원장 추대 방식에 합의하기로 했고, 권 의원도 이에 따르겠다고 밝혔지만, 결과적으로 이를 뒤집고 일방적으로 출마를 강행했다”고 덧붙였다.

또한 이 의원은 권영진 의원의 대구시장 재임 당시 정책 실패를 조목조목 짚었다. 신천지 사태 초기 대응, 백신센터 화재 대응 혼선, 통합 신공항 이전 갈등, 아파트 공급 과잉 등으로 대표되는 정책 실패를 거론하며 “그 인물이 아무런 성찰 없이 정당 운영의 전면에 다시 나서는 것은 대구 정치의 퇴행”이라고 강하게 비판했다.

이 의원은 “시당위원장은 총선과 지방선거 전략을 이끌고, 당내 소통과 협력을 조율하는 자리”라며 “공천관리위원장과 시당위원장은 명확히 역할이 분리돼야 하며, 이를 혼동해서는 안 된다”고 밝혔다.

그는 “과거를 정리하고 미래를 준비하는 시당을 만들겠다. 당원 중심의 정당, 책임 정치, 품격 있는 보수의 가치를 실현하겠다”며 지지를 호소했다.
