해당 지역은 홍준표 전 의원의 대구시장 출마로 공석이 된 지역구로 앞서 총선에서 이인선 후보는 국민의힘 공천을 받아 홍준표 후보와의 경쟁을 펼친 바 있다.
대구 수성구을 보궐선거에는 국민의힘에서 △권세호 인수위 기획위원 △김재원 전 최고위원 △사공정규 전 국민의당 최고위원 △유영하 변호사 △이인선 전 경북도 경제부지사 △정상환 전 서울중앙지검 부장검사 △정순천 전 대구시의회 부의장 등 총 7명의 후보가 공천을 신청해 면접을 마쳤다.
이날 윤상현 공천관리위원장은 “시도지사 경선에서 탈락한 후보 배제, 여성인재 발굴, 윤석열 정부 탄생 기여도 등 몇 가지 공천 원칙을 정해 후보를 결정했다.”고 밝혔다.
이같은 원칙에 따라 대구시장 경선에서 탈락한 유 변호사와 김 전 최고위원이 배제되었으며 이인선 전 지사는 대통령직 인수위원회 산하 지역균형발전위원회 위원으로 활동한 이력과 여성 인재 발굴이란 조건을 충족해 단수추천을 받았다.
