특별법의 소관 상임위인 산업통상자원중소벤처기업위원회 법안소위 활동 및 기자회견, 토론회 등을 통해 특별법 제정에 주도적으로 나선 바 있는 이인선 의원은 22대 임기 시작과 동시에 1호 법안으로 고준위특별법을 다시 대표발의하며 법안 통과를 위한 의정활동을 이어갈 예정이다.

이인선 의원은 “당초 2060년까지 고준위 방폐장 확보를 목표로 법안통과를 추진했지만 결국 21대 국회 처리가 무산되었고 전체 일정이 불가피하게 지연될 수밖에 없다”고 안타까움을 토로했다.

그러면서 “원전 안에서 쌓여만 가는 사용후핵연료의 조속한 반출을 요구하는 원전지역 주민들의 불만이 점점 더 커지고 있고, 원자력의 혜택을 누린 우리세대가 미래세대를 위하여 반드시 결자해지를 해야 하는 중요한 시점이다”라고 강조했다.

이 의원은 “대안이 마련된 만큼 22대 국회에서는 민주당도 가장 빠른 시일 내에 통과에 협조해 줄 것을 다시 한번 촉구한다“고 말했다.
