【브레이크뉴스 대구】이성현 기자=혁신이 간절한 국민의힘 원내대표에 경북 김천의 송언석 의원이 선출되면서 혁신 및 당의 변화가 물 건너가는 것 아니냐는 우려가 나오고 있다.  

송언석 의원은 김천에서 3번 당선된 중진으로, 기재부 차관출신의 관료 정치인이다. 지난 윤석열 정권하에서는 탄핵 반대 목소리를 내면서 자연스럽게 친윤그룹으로 분류됐다.

송 의원은 지역에서도 온화한 측에 속하는 성품으로 개혁이나 혁신이라는 키워드와는 거리가 있는 인물로 평가받고 있다. 그 때문에 변화를 위한 혁신과 개혁이 절실한 현 국민의힘을 새로이 변화시켜 국민 눈높이에 맞춰 놓기는 쉽지 않을 것으로 정가는 점치고 있다.

친윤 성향이 짙은 송 의원이 원내대표에 앉으면서 국힘을 걱정하는 이들이 당 대표에 관심을 보이고 있다. 보수 심장이라는 TK 정치권에서는 9월 초쯤이나 있을 법한 국민의힘 전당대회에 예년과 달리 적극적인 관심을 보이고 있다. 

실제, 예년에는 원내대표나 당 대표 또는 최고위원 한 석 차지하게 되면 체면상 다른 자리는 넘보지도 않던 관례(?)가 있었다. 지역별 균형과 형평성을 맞춰야 한다는 일종의 정치적 배려이기도 했다. 

그러나, 이번에는 사정이 조금 다르다. 윤석열 대통령으로 인한 보수 궤멸이라는 초유의 사태라는 현실은 보수 심장인 TK 주민들에게 너무나 큰 상처를 안겨준 데다, 소위 찐윤이라는 권영세, 권성동 등을 포함해 친윤이라 자처해 온 이들 대부분이 TK 이외 지역 출신임을 감안하면, 이들이 망쳐놓은 국민의힘의 현실을 더이상은 보수심장인 TK가 보고만 있어서는 안된다는 자연스런 공감대를 형성해 내고 있는 것. 

지역 국민의힘 한 관계자는 “보수 정당이라 자처해 온 국민의힘이 더 이상 망가질 곳이 없을만큼 처참해진 데는 윤석열과 그 주변 인물들을 방치해 놓은 우리들의 책임이 없지 않다”며 “그 책임을 위해서도 지금의 국민의힘은 보수 심장인 TK가 나서서 치료해야 한다. 그것이 보수정치의 기득권을 지니고 있다고 할 수 있는 TK가 무한한 책임을 지는 자세”라고 말했다.

그럼, 대안은 있는 것일까. 지역 정치권이 눈여겨보는 인물 중 한 사람이 권영진 의원이다.

권 의원은 중도 보수성향의 개혁적 인물로 통한다. 개혁적이면서 논리적이기도 하다. 윤석열 전 대통령의 탄핵 시국에서 방송 토론 패널로 출연한 데는 논리적이면서도 매우 합리적인 보수성향을 지니고 있기 때문이란 분석도 있다. 

TK를 제외한 수도권 등 다른 지역에서 국민의힘 비전을 재정립할 수 있는 인물을 찾기가 쉽지 않은 상황에서 그를 눈여겨보는 것은 책임론을 거부하지 않겠다는 보수 지역 TK의 자성(自省)어린 모습으로 비쳐진다. 여기에 권영진 의원 스스로가 지금의 위기에 혁신 드라이브를 걸 수 있는 사명 의식을 지니고 있는 인물이라는 점 또한 그를 거부할 수 없는 매력으로 꼽힌다. 

권 의원 역시 지금 처한 당의 혁신에 본인의 열정을 보태고 싶어하는 눈치다. 실제, 윤석열 전 대통령의 탄핵 논란이 한창이던 당시, 그는 다른 이들이 당론으로 탄핵을 반대하는 상황에서도 대통령 스스로가 하야하기를 꾸준히 원했다.

김문수 대선 후보 교체 당시에도 그는 민주적 절차를 이야기했다. 최근에는 김용태 비대위원장의 5대 개혁 제안을 당내서는 드물게 찬성해 눈길을 끌었고, 오세훈 서울시장,김용태 비대위원장, 김재섭,이준석 의원 등 비교적 중도 보수성향의 젊은 정치인들과 회동하는 모습이 목격되기도 했다. 

정치권은 권 의원의 이같은 모습이 자주 포착되는 것에 대하여 “당에 대한 고민을 하는 것 같다. 아무래도 당권에 도전할 의사가 있는 것 같다”고 예측했다.

Rep. Kwon is known as a moderate conservative reformist. He is both reformative and logical. There is also an analysis that the reason he appeared as a broadcast debate panelist during the impeachment of former President Yoon Seok-yeol is because he has a logical and very reasonable conservative tendency.

In a situation where it is not easy to find someone who can reestablish the vision of the People Power Party in other regions such as the metropolitan area except for TK, the fact that he is being watched is seen as a self-reflective attitude of the conservative region TK that will not reject responsibility.
