4일 오전 11시 대구시의회 앞에서 기자회견을 개최한 대구악취방지시민연대는 “서구의 악취 문제는 심각하며 실질적 대책 마련이 시급한 상황이지만 제대로 된 용역 검사가 시행되지 않고 있어 문제 해결이 지연되고 있다”고 주장했다.

앞서 대구시는 서대구 염색산업단지 일대를 악취관리지역으로 고시했다. 그러나 서구 주민들은 인근 하폐수처리장과 쓰레기 매립장 등 환경기초시설에서도 인체에 유해한 물질과 악취가 발생하기 때문에 추가 지정이 필요하다는 입장이다.

이들은 대구시의회가 달성군을 대상으로 실시한 '지역 내 대기유해물질 저감을 위한 조사·분석 및 해결방안 연구'를 언급했다.

그러면서 “환경공단이 진행하는 검사는 서구의 악취 민원이 가장 많이 발생한 시간대에 진행되지 않는다”며 “달성군과 동일하게 서구에서도 24시간 대기오염물질 측정을 실시해야 한다”고 말했다.

또한 서구 악취 민원에 대한 조사가 지난 2015년부터 2022년까지의 자료를 토대로 실시된 점을 지적하며 “평리뉴타운에 입주민들이 들어온 시기는 2023년으로 민원이 가장 많았던 시기가 누락된 조사”라고 꼬집기도 했다.

이들은 “철저하고 객관적인 악취 용역 검사를 시행하고 결과를 투명하게 공개하라”며 “이를 바탕으로 실질적인 방지 대책을 수립하라”고 강조했다.

They also pointed out that the investigation into bad odor complaints in Seo-gu was conducted based on data from 2015 to 2022, and criticized that “the period when the most complaints occurred was 2023, when residents moved into Pyeongri New Town, so the investigation omitted this period.”

They emphasized, “Conduct a thorough and objective bad odor inspection and transparently disclose the results,” and “Establish practical prevention measures based on this.”
