【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구 남구가 민원실에 AI(인공지능) 기반 실시간 통·번역기를 도입해 외국인 주민의 행정 서비스 이용 편의를 높이고 있다.

남구는 4월 중 민원실에 65개 언어를 음성과 문자로 실시간 번역할 수 있는 통·번역기 설치를 완료했다고 밝혔다. 이 장비는 민원 상담 과정에서 발생할 수 있는 언어 장벽을 해소하고, 대기 시간과 의사소통 오류를 최소화하는 데 중점을 뒀다.

이번 조치는 캠프 워커 인근이라는 지역 특성과 함께, 다문화가족과 외국인 주민이 꾸준히 늘고 있는 현실을 반영한 것이다. 실제로 남구에서는 외국인 민원 수요가 계속 증가하면서 즉각적인 통역 지원의 필요성이 대두돼 왔다.

남구청은 지난해부터 민원서식 다국어 번역본을 제작·비치하고, 홈페이지에도 이를 게재하는 등 외국인 행정 접근성 개선에 나서고 있다. 이번 AI 통·번역기 도입 역시 현장 대응력을 끌어올리는 후속 대책으로 평가된다.

조재구 남구청장은 “언어의 장벽이 행정 서비스 이용의 걸림돌이 되지 않도록 하는 조치”라며 “내·외국인 누구나 쉽고 편리하게 이용할 수 있는 스마트 행정을 앞으로도 확대해 나가겠다”고 강조했다.

Daegu Nam-gu is enhancing the convenience of administrative services for foreign residents by introducing AI-based real-time translation devices to its civil service offices.

Nam-gu announced that it completed the installation of translation devices in its civil service offices in April, capable of translating 65 languages ​​in real-time via both voice and text. The equipment focuses on resolving language barriers that may arise during civil service consultations and minimizing waiting times and communication errors.

Since last year, the Nam-gu Office has been working to improve administrative accessibility for foreigners by producing and stocking multilingual translations of civil service forms and posting them on its website. The introduction of these AI translation devices is also considered a follow-up measure aimed at boosting on-site responsiveness.

Nam-gu Mayor Jo Jae-gu emphasized, “This is a measure to ensure that language barriers do not become an obstacle to using administrative services,” adding, “We will continue to expand smart administration that anyone, both domestic and foreign, can use easily and conveniently.”
