경상감영은 정문인 광풍루를 비롯해 선화당과 징청각 등이 잘 보존되어 있어 다른 어떤 지역의 감영보다 원형을 잘 갖추고 있는 귀중한 유적으로 평가받고 있다.
경상감영 복원 사업은 대구 대선 공약인 '대구 역사 문화 관광 벨트 구축' 핵심 사업으로 국민의힘 홍석준 의원(대구 달서갑)이 정문(관풍루)과 중문(중삼문) 복원을 위한 보호구역 내 토지 및 지장물 매입비 72억 8,000만원, 경상감영지 종합정비계획 수립비 1억 2,600만원 등 국비 74억 600만원이 2023년도 정부 예산안에 반영됐다고 밝혔다.
대구시는 금번 반영된 예산을 통해 관풍루와 중삼문 복원을 위한 보호구역 내 사유지를 매입하고, 2024년부터 이전 및 복원에 나설 계획이다.
홍 의원은 “경상감영의 복원은 과거 영남의 중심지였던 대구의 역사와 정체성을 회복하기 위한 역사적인 사업”이라면서 “경상감영 복원사업이 속도감 있게 추진될 수 있도록 국회 예산 심사 과정에서 잔여 부지 매입비 등 추가 예산 확보에 적극적으로 노력할 것”고 전했다.
아울러 “백화당 및 사령청 복원을 위한 대구우체국 이전 문제 역시 소관 상임위인 과학기술정보방송통신위원회 위원으로서 과기부 및 우정사업본부와 긴밀히 협의해 나가겠다”이라고 밝혔다.
