홍석준 의원(대구 달서구갑)이 대표발의 한 '감염병 예방 및 관리에 관한 법률' 개정안이 통과돼 권역별 감염병 전문병원 지정 시 인구규모 및 지리적 접근성을 고려한 권역이 설정된다고 29일 밝혔다.

홍석준 의원실에 따르면 감염병전문병원이 지역의 인구규모, 지리적 접근성 등을 고려해 설치할 필요가 있음에도 불구하고 중부권과 호남권에 비해 두 배가 넘는 인구를 가진 영남권이 하나의 권역으로 설정돼 영남권역 양산 부산대병원만 감염병 전문병원으로 지정되었음을 지적하며 지난해 해당 법안을 제안했다.

경북권 감염병전문병원 추가 설치의 필요성과 당위성을 지속적으로 정부에 설득해온 홍 의원의 노력은 올해 6월 칠곡경북대병원이 경북권 감염병전문병원으로 추가 선정되는데 크게 기여한 것으로 평가받는다.

홍석준 의원은 “앞으로도 지역에 도움이 되는 사업이나 정책을 추진하면서 입법을 통해 제도적 기반을 구축하는 방식으로 정부를 설득하는 노력을 계속하도록 하겠다.”고 밝혔다.
