정부가 ‘청년희망 ON(溫, On-Going)’ 시즌2 첫 프로젝트로 이차전지 양극재 기업인 ‘에코프로’와 파트너십을 체결했다. 에코프로는 향후 3년간 총 3천 개의 일자리를 만들겠다고 약속했다.

18일 경북 포항 영일만산업단지에 소재한 ‘에코배터리 포항 제2캠퍼스’에서 개최된 정부와 기업간의 ‘청년희망 ON(溫, On-Going)’간담회에서 에코프로는 향후 3년간 직접 채용으로 총 2천 8백 명, 3년간 벤처투자를 통한 생태계 조성에 의한 2백 개를 포함해 일자리 3천 개를 창출한다고 발표했다.

 에코프로는 1998년 창업해 극재(에코프로BM), 온실가스저감(에코프로HN), 벤처캐피탈(iSquare Ventures) 등 8개 가족사를 보유하고 있는 환경‧에너지 소재 산업 기업으로 이차전지 시장의 확대에 따라 지난해 매출 1조 5천억 원을 기록하는 등 미래 신산업분야 큰 성장세를 보이고 있는 중견기업이다.

  이날 행사에는 정부측에서 김부겸 국무총리와 김사열 국가균형발전위원장, 구윤철 국무조정실장, 오영식 국무총리비서실장, 박진규 산업통상자원부 제1차관이 참석했고, 에코프로 측은 이동채 회장, 김병훈 에코프로BM 대표이사, 이재훈 아이스퀘어벤처스 대표이사, 김윤태 에코프로이노베이션 대표이사, 김수연 에코프로GEM 대표이사가 참석했다.

간담회에서는 국무총리실 청년정책조정위원회 천현우 위원과 마이스터고, 제대군인, 체육특기생 출신 등 5명의 에코프로 입사자들이 참석해 지방 청년의 일자리 찾기 어려움과 사회 초년생 및 구직자들이 직업전환에서 겪는 고충 등을 나누며 정부의 지원과 제도 개선 방안 등을 제시했다.

이날 에코프로가 제시한 3년간 3천개의 일자리는 현재의 기업 규모를 배 이상으로 키우는 것을 전제로 에코프로는 ‘청년희망 ON(溫, On-Going)’ 참여를 결정하면서 당초의 신규채용 계획 2배라는 통 큰 결단을 내렸다.

  포항 신규공장에는 우선적으로 지역 특성화고 졸업생‧우수 제대군인 등을 대상으로 2차 전지 맞춤형 산‧학 연계를 통해 매년 8백여 명씩 3년간 2천500명의 인력을 직접 채용하기로 했다. 또한 자체 기술인력 양성 프로그램인 ‘테크니컬 러닝센터’를 통해서 이차전지 분야 맞춤형 인력을 매년 1백명씩 3년간 3백 명을 육성해 직접 채용한다고 밝혔다. 이외에, 벤처투자 운영을 통해 유망벤처 기업을 지원하여 3년간 200개의 일자리를 창출하겠다는 계획도 밝혔다.

  에코프로는 향후 맞춤형 전문 교육과정을 학사 및 전문학사 과정으로 확대하고, 특성화고교와의 연계로 우수인력 채용 프로그램을 운영해 여기서 배출된 인력을 직접 채용하거나 이차전지 소재 기업과의 일자리를 공유하는 등  지역 청년의 일자리 창출과 국가균형발전에도 기여하겠다고 밝혔다.

한편,  지난해 6개 대기업 중심으로 성사되었던 ‘청년희망ON’은 올해부터 참여대상을 중견기업과 플랫폼 기업으로 확대한 시즌2를 맞이했다.

김 총리는 간담회 모두발언에서 “중견 기업인 에코프로가 3천 개의 일자리를 약속한다는 것은 대기업으로 보면 몇 만 개의 일자리에 해당하는 것”이라며 “정말 쉽지 않은 담대한 결정을 해 주셨다. 에코프로가 수도권이 아닌 지역에서 청년 일자리를 만들어 주신 것은 균형발전의 차원에서 더욱 큰 의미가 있다”고 거듭 감사를 전했다.
