【브레이크뉴스 포항】박영재 기자=친환경 이차전지 소재 전문기업 에코프로가 에너지와 환경 분야의 유망한 신진 과학자를 발굴하고 지원하기 위한 ‘에코프로 젊은 과학자상(EYSA: Ecopro Young Scientist Awards)’ 후보 공모를 시작한다고 21일 밝혔다.

올해로 3회째를 맞이한 이 상은 산업현장과 학계 간의 연구 협력을 강화하고, 젊은 교수들의 첨단 소재 분야 연구 의욕을 고취시키기 위해 제정됐다.

에코프로는 1998년 창립 이래 유해가스 저감용 촉매 개발을 시작으로, 현재는 배터리 양극재 기술을 기반으로 이차전지 소재 산업을 선도하고 있다. 이러한 성장 배경 속에서 에코프로는 환경과 에너지 분야의 우수한 젊은 연구자를 지원해 지속 가능한 과학기술 발전에 기여하고자 이번 상을 운영하고 있다.

지원 자격은 만 45세 미만(1980년 7월 1일 이후 출생자) 국내 대학 소속 내·외국인 교수로, 최근 3년간 SCI-E급(Science Citation Index Expanded) 논문 5편 이상을 발표한 연구자다. 지원은 본인 신청 방식으로, 오는 7월 21일부터 9월 21일까지 접수를 받는다.

심사는 에너지 및 환경 두 분야로 나눠 진행되며, 최근 에코프로가 신설한 AI 혁신실과 연계해 AI 플랫폼을 활용한 데이터 기반 연구성과를 우대한다. 이는 연구 현장 내 AI 도입 확대와 과학기술의 디지털 전환을 촉진하기 위한 조치다.

최종 수상자는 11월 발표되며, 12월에 시상식을 통해 에너지와 환경 분야 각 1명씩 총 2명을 선정해 각 2,000만 원의 상금을 수여할 예정이다.

The evaluation will be divided into two fields: energy and environment, and data-based research results utilizing AI platforms will be given preference in connection with the AI Innovation Lab recently established by EcoPro. This is a measure to expand the introduction of AI in research fields and promote the digital transformation of science and technology.

The final winners will be announced in November, and a total of 2 people, 1 each in the energy and environment fields, will be selected through an awards ceremony in December and awarded 20 million won in prize money to each.
