이날 출범식에는 이강덕 포항시장과 백인규 포항시의회 의장을 비롯해 두산퓨얼셀, SK에코플랜트, 햅스 등 협의체 가입 기업 30개 사와 김학홍 경상북도 행정부지사, 안종득 한국에너지기술평가원 수소에너지실장, 박용선 경북도의회 부의장, 한국산업단지공단 경북지역본부·포항지사 등이 참석했다.

이날 출범식에서 신경종 포항테크노파크 수소클러스터 추진단장은 회원사들의 최대 관심사인 수소연료전지 클러스터 구축 사업의 현황과 추진계획을 발표하고, 입주 예상 시기, 구축 장비 목록 등을 공개했다.

이후 클러스터 입주 의향을 가장 먼저 밝힌 ㈜햅스, ㈜에너지앤퓨얼, ㈜에프씨아이를 포함한 5개 사에서 포항시, 경북도와 총 40,984㎡ 부지에 1,150억 원을 투자, 약 600여 명의 고용 창출을 내용으로 하는 투자양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다.

이번 MOU로 수소연료전지 클러스터의 성공적인 구축을 향한 첫걸음을 내디딘 시는 향후 기업 집적화 유망 지역을 요건으로 하는 수소특화단지 유치에도 속도를 낼 수 있을 것으로 기대하고 있다.

이날 행사는 수소연료전지 클러스터 및 협의체 운영에 관한 기업들의 건의 사항을 청취하는 소통간담회로 마무리됐으며, 가까운 시일 내 첫 번째 임시총회를 소집해 정관(안) 확정과 회장단 선출을 진행키로 합의했다.

수소연료전지 클러스터 기업협의체는 포항시 수소경제를 선도하는 클러스터 입주 예정 기업과 클러스터 내 부품소재성능평가 장비 사용 기업, 연료전지실증코어 테스트베드에서 연료전지 시제품을 실증할 기업들로 구성된다.

협의체는 향후 신산업 분야인 수소 산업 발전을 위한 정부 정책을 건의하고 공동 국책사업을 발굴해, 수소 분야 선도기업과 중소 부품소재 기업의 동반 성장 네트워크를 만드는 것을 목표로 하고 있다.

창립회원사로 두산퓨얼셀, 미코파워, 햅스, 에프씨아이 등 연료전지 분야 선도 기업과 관련 중소기업까지 총 30개 사가 가입했으며, 향후 회원사를 지속 확대할 계획이다.

향후 협의체는 자체 운영계획에 따라 정기 또는 수시 총회를 개최해 연료전지 분야 공동기술개발, 핵심부품 중소기업을 위한 금융지원책 발굴 등 지역 수소 산업 활성화를 위한 정책에 대해 논의할 예정이다.

이강덕 시장은 “협의체 회원사들의 의견을 적극 반영해 포항 특화형 수소경제 성장 모델을 구축할 것”이라며 “K-수소경제를 이끌어 가는 주역으로 지역 기업이 앞으로 포항시를 넘어 국내 시장, 글로벌 시장을 선도할 수 있도록 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.

한편 포항시는 지역 내 수소 전문기업을 육성하기 위해 예비수소전문기업 육성 지원사업, 수소연료전지 인증센터 활성화 지원, 수소 연료전지산업 경쟁력 강화 사업 등을 시행하고 있으며, 이밖에도 협의체 회원사만을 위한 기술개발 및 사업화 지원책을 준비하고 있다.
